Fire the Campaign
New York Times ^ | 10/13/08 | William Kristol

Posted on 10/13/2008 1:21:13 AM PDT by MartinaMisc

It’s time for John McCain to fire his campaign.

He has nothing to lose. His campaign is totally overmatched by Obama’s. The Obama team is well organized, flush with resources, and the candidate and the campaign are in sync. The McCain campaign, once merely problematic, is now close to being out-and-out dysfunctional. Its combination of strategic incoherence and operational incompetence has become toxic. If the race continues over the next three weeks to be a conventional one, McCain is doomed.

He may be anyway. Bush is unpopular. The media is hostile. The financial meltdown has made things tougher. Maybe the situation is hopeless — and if it is, then nothing McCain or his campaign does matters.

But I’m not convinced by such claims of inevitability. McCain isn’t Bush. The media isn’t all-powerful. And the economic crisis still presents an opportunity to show leadership.

The 2008 campaign is now about something very big — both our future prosperity and our national security. Yet the McCain campaign has become smaller.

What McCain needs to do is junk the whole thing and start over. Shut down the rapid responses, end the frantic e-mails, bench the spinning surrogates, stop putting up new TV and Internet ads every minute. In fact, pull all the ads — they’re doing no good anyway. Use that money for televised town halls and half-hour addresses in prime time.

And let McCain go back to what he’s been good at in the past — running as a cheerful, open and accessible candidate. Palin should follow suit. The two of them are attractive and competent politicians. They’re happy warriors and good campaigners. Set them free.

WE’RE NOT TURNING THE WHITE HOUSE KEYS OVER TO BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA- NOT IF WE ON FR, RUSH, HANNITY AND FOX HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT!

CALLING OBAMA A RESPECTABLE FAMILY MAN THAT WE NEED NOT FEAR IS OUTRAGEOUS!

McCAIN TAKING THE ABUSE AND INSULTS FROM OBAMA AND REFUSING TO FIGHT BACK IS OUTRAGEOUS!

FReep McCAIN/ MSM OUT.

HOW LONG CAN THEY IGNORE A MILLION EMAILS??

.

McCain is losing this campaign because he refuses to fight Obama and his lies, and dirty tactics such as ACORN voter fraud. He’s just been rolling over (or bending over, I should say) and accepting the abuse heaped upon him- and expecially Sarah Palin.

The anemic attempts by the McCain camp to fight back within the last few days just ain’t gonna get it.
He should have been hitting Obama back hard months ago.
He needs to get out there every day and FIGHT BACK.
Email Republican headquarters/McCain.

FReep ‘EM OUT!

CAN THEY IGNORE A MILLION EMAILS?

REMIND McCAIN THAT HE HAS AN OBLIGATION AS OUR CANDIDATE TO FIGHT BACK!
To h*ll with bipartisian BS!
To h*ll with PC!
To h*ll with ‘conducting a respectful campaign’as McCain has said, and vowed to do.

RESPECTFUL CAMPAIGNING WENT STRAIGHT OUT THE WINDOW WITH OBAMA’S NASTY, BRUTAL COMMENTS SUCH AS;
‘lipstick on a pig’ and ‘You can wrap AN OLD FISH in a piece of paper called change. It’s still going to stink after eight years.’

Take off the gloves, McCain!

Hit the Marxist/Muslim hard with Ayers, Acorn, Violation of Logan Act, abortion, 2nd admendment, Campaigning for Odinga!!

Get off the d*mned economy issue. State that Obama/Democrats/ACORN, whatever, caused this meltdown. State McCain offered a proposal to avert the meltdown, state his solution and GET OFF IT.
Obama is counting on keeping this going to take the spotlight off his sordid past and dirty dealings!
NOTHING is more important than waking America up to this Marxist/Muslim!! DO IT. EXPOSE HIM!

Taking advice from Bill Kristol is almost as bad as taking advice from Bob Schrum.

*****McCain isn’t Bush*****

He sure looks like a Bush clone to me.

He doesn’t fight liberals

He is a big government politician

He is a big spending bail out politician

He is pro amnesty

Etc

He should just quit and let Palin come out and fight, she would. They might just have a chance if it isn’t too late.

There's a lot of guys on the right who have all the brains in the world but sadly they're lacking in common sense and Kristol falls into both of these categories.

You got it.

McCain is within the margin of error in plenty of polls, when Obama should be 30 points ahead.

McCain can’t attack Obama the way some people want. If he does so, the media will spend the next three weeks accusing him of racism, hate, craziness, etc. They’re already doing that.

Anyway, McCain doesn’t have to attack Obama anymore, because the ACORN fraud, Ayers, and Rezko will peel off enough voters that McCain will win by a couple of percentage points, and that’s all he needs.

Kristol is dead wrong.

What McCain needs to do is junk the whole thing and start over.

What McCain needs to do is renounce his socialist stance he shares with Obama on amnesty for illegal aliens, the lie of human induced global warming, restricting free speech with campaign finance reform, opposition to drilling in ANWR and the socialist bail out scam.

William Kristol is an ass that is trying to solidify the next 4 years of his career as the 'token white conservative' on all of the political TV shows. If he's a conservative or anything close to it, I'm a petunia!

It is no wonder that MR Kristol thinks that Obama's campaign is better - better at lying, better at Obfuscating, better at getting illegal contributions, better at hiding the numerous failings of their candidate savior, all round better at being deceitful.....

In the words of that Hollywood actress and intellectual icon, Pamela Anderson, "Kristol can suck it!"

You know, I understand that pundits/op-ed columnists/etc serve a purpose, but, man, I am just SO tired of reading them/listening to them beat up on McCain and his campaign people day in and day out.

For pete’s sake, how can anyone possibly expect the GOP ticket to be 100% perfect over such a long period of time?
One minute, they’re getting kudos for a good ad, the next, they’re being called idiots for another.

And remember this. McCain/Palin has to overcome the HUGE handicap that is called the MSM! The dem ticket has the unfair advantage, no matter how good McCain’s people perform. The GOP has become the party that people want to hate. Period. It isn’t all about McCain or Palin.

Is there nothing better, more important for all these people to be writing/talking about? By constantly putting criticism of the McCain camp out there for everyone to see, it makes that camp look like they are not doing a good job. How can Republicans feel good about voting for a candidate when all they are reading/hearing (and not just on CNN) is how lousy their own ticket is?
