Republicans, alarmed by the prospect that Democrats could take back the White House and expand their majorities in the House and Senate, are starting to warn of the perils of one party controlling Washington.
It's a striking argument for Republicans, who have held all the levers of federal power for most of the past eight years. While even GOP leaders admit the Republican brand has been tarnished during President Bush's two terms, they believe they can convince voters that total Democratic control would be worse, leading to higher taxes and an expansion of government.
In his new campaign stump speech, Arizona Sen. John McCain warned Monday that Democrat Barack Obama is "measuring the drapes and planning, with Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi and Sen. (Harry) Reid, to raise taxes, increase spending and concede defeat in Iraq."
The warning is part of a new campaign to put Obama on the defensive. McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, are accusing the Democratic nominee of pushing "socialist" tax policies.

As soon as the GOP got the majority, there were flips by Democrat infiltrators/RINOs (Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords) and the DUmocrats have been in control of congress most of the Bush’s two terms.

Hello, morons, Republicans are “scaring” people about one-party rule because the Democrats would be in total control, and Republicans don’t like Democrats.
It would be hard to find an issue on which Democrats haven’t accused Republicans of scare-mongering. It sort of takes the danger out of appeals to fear when “fear” is defined so broadly.
What the hell? It's been a Democratically controlled Congress for six years; the Congress makes the laws, the President only has veto power, and I can't think of a veto of substance that has been issued in that time! The only "lever of Federqal power" have had is an ALMOST equal number of allegedly Conservative Supreme Court justices, with a squishy center on the 4-to-5, and even that isn't a lock.
This should be used in individual races as well. It could sway getting a few more Republicans in.
Today our country is suffering from over half a million jobs lost this year alone, over 4,000 troops needlessly killed in Iraq, a reputation for torture and civil rights violations by the federal government, and a stagnant stock market casino.
Democratic control of Congress and the WH is a goal that I aspire to, not something that fearmongers should deprive us of.
The article fails to mention that Republicans did nopt have a 60-Senator supermajority in ‘00 or ‘04, and that the Democrats gained a majority in both houses in ‘06. The sentence about Republicans holding federal power for the last eight years is an out-and-out lie (and that doesn’t even take into consideration the liberals ensconched in the giant federal bureaucracy).
Barney Franks is already calling for “Increased Taxes” and we haven’t even had the election yet. Don’t the democrats see where this is all going?

Don’t be so modest. Clinton was also responsible for the biggest bubble the country has known. The tech bubble wiped many an investor out or damaged their portfolios and retirement accounts irreparably.
Clinton also handed a recession to Bush, when he left. In addition, our power worldwide steadily and consistently was degraded by failures to respond to Al Queada attacks on the WTC, Yemen, Somalia, Kenya and countless other places.

We ‘enjoyed’ a tax hike, attacks on gun owners, attacks on free speech, and the threat of the takeover of 1/7th of our economy and the threat of a loss of freedom and choice in the healthcare arena.
The threat sent the stock market reeling and the economy sputtering.

The stock market was doing fine until the Democrats took over Congress. Their threats to raise taxes and waste money spooked investors and businesses and made the economy worse.
