OENIX (Reuters) In the final stretch to the presidential election, more than three quarters of likely Hispanic voters say they support Democrat Barack Obama over Republican John McCain, a study found.
The Univision/Reuters/Zogby poll released on Tuesday said that 78 percent of a sample of 1,016 Latino likely voters favored Sen. Obama, with 13 percent supporting McCain, an Arizona senator.
The poll, which was conducted between October 30 and November 2, found that 54 percent of respondents said the economy and jobs were the most important issue in deciding who to vote for, followed by health care and immigration, with 12 percent and 11 percent respectively.
Hispanics make up 15 percent of the U.S. population and 9 percent of the electorate, and could be a critical swing voting bloc in battleground states in the U.S. Southwest as well as Florida on Tuesday.
In 2004, President George W. Bush won about 40 percent of the Latino vote -- a Republican record -- when he beat Democrat John Kerry. But opinion polls show Republican standing among Hispanics has since been hurt by a shrill national debate over immigration reform and a worsening economy.
A survey by Zogby International last month found that 70 percent of Hispanic likely voters favored Obama, with 21 percent favoring McCain.

El Socialismo.
Get them out of that school.
I guess Republicans need to stop sucking up to the illegals, if these stats are even half true, it shows that there is no benefit in doing so.
The Hispanics I know all say they don’t trust Obama- they don’t say they will vote McCain, but many say they may not vote at all. I don’t see Hispanics voting in large numbers for Obama, I would be surprised. Another issue at least with Hispanics I know is that the Catholic priests have been reminding everyone of the abortion issue, so that may hurt Obama also. Usually the priests talk to them about voting for someone who will be concerned about the poor, etc. which steers them to the Ds, this time abortion seems to be the big issue for the Catholics like it hasn’t really been for a while.
Deadbeats in hope of a handout.
I don’t get the hispanic hatred for McCain. McCain is the best friend the Amnesty crowd could ask for!
Daughter attends a predominantly Mexican-American, Native-American high school. One of her teachers polled her class yesterday. Of 16 students, 12 voted for McCain, 4 voted for Obama. Of the 4 Obama votes, 2 were solid and 2 were folks who didn’t know what to do and voted for Obama out of sympathy for the 2 minority voters. (to make them feel less outnumbered) Daughter was pleasantly surprised because she has thought for weeks that she was almost alone in her support of McCain. The McCain supporters were surprisingly knowledgeable. At least one of the Obama supporters was very pro-abortion and thus didn’t like Palin. I believe the teacher in this particular class is an Obama supporter, but I’m not certain. Daughter may have said the teacher is a Democrat. Most of Daughter’s teachers are McCain supporters.
One of our sons was talking about his 95%+ Hispanic school yesterday. His science teacher told his class that she supports McCain because Obama is against science. Someone asked why Obama’s against science. Our son said, “Because Obama doesn’t understand it.” LOL Anywho, the teacher is married to a research scientist, and it seems that the community in which he works is leaning McCain. (that is surprising. university professor types.)
Texas is going to become the next CA, NJ and NJ for the Ds. Gotta love illegal immigration!
The Democrats have two very stupid blocks of voters: Jews and the Hispanics.
Alberto Gonzales and Miguel Estrada were screwed royally by the Democrats; and the Hispanics still vote for them.
Stupid, stupid, stupid
Here in South Florida, most of the people from Cuba, Venezuela and Colombia
are voting McCain. There will be a lot more hispanic votes in Florida for McCain
in this election, in my opinion.
For example, Tito the Builder is Colombian, and most of them, along with Venezualans, are conservative. Same with Cubans. Whats the common thread? All three of those have had to deal with left wing radicals screwing up the home country.
I’m not a block voter.
I want to know, what can be done to help the Hispanic community see that they align more easily with Conservative values? I employ seven Hispanics here. They are genuinely nice people. They are all legal but I know that not everyone they take care of is. I am dead set against illegal immigration but I would hate to think that these men should send their wife an kids back to Mexico. It should have never happened in the first place, but now that it has, what is the best way to deal with the problem?
I have an opinion but would really like to get some others. I think if Conservatives could come up with a way to get past this one issue, a huge voting block could be the result. The men that work for me are all on visas and cannot vote but they seem to support McCain. I should note that one of them is a higher-up at the Catholic church here.
Go to Hell TROLL.
Oh, did that 'put you off'?
In Durham NC blacks target hispanics because hispanics don’t trust banks and carry around alot of cash on them. Black on Hispanic crime is a well known problem here. Why would Hispanics vote for the brother?
I don’t believe it even for a second. Wait until tomorrow and we’ll see what the Hispanic vote REALLY is.
So how are we supposed to win elections if they won’t vote for us? The dems have sold out our country and won the votes.

It's never a good idea to suck up to people who break the law. One mans opinion.
