Is the gun issue dead?
11/6/08 | vanity

Has there in the past 50 years been another national election in which the NRA and other pro-2nd Amendment groups been complete failures in influencing the outcome?

As best I can determine, the NRA did not save/win a single state for McCain. Has the NRA become useless against the utterly corrupt Media Brothel? Or was it a case of Obama spending 9-1 against McCain and 90-1 against the NRA and other gun groups?

This is an important question going forward. Since The One used hundreds of millions of dollars of illegal/foreign money, and since it will never, ever be investigated, what's to stop him in 2012 from gathering TWO billion dollars to win?

my advice to you and anyone else in MA

GET OUT NOW

why give your money to their liberal agenda, go to VA,FL,NC,CO,AZ,NM and help with your vote to make it more red, every vote counts

while you live in New England, the Dem are taking your money and giving to liberal agenda into the schools.

your vote in MA is a waste of time

I moved my wife out of MA and she says it was the best thing she ever did

We moved to north FL and love it, we might not have got the state for McCain but we did help and we certainly helped to stop the homo’s from marrying each other

I think gunowners became (for the most part) complacent because gun rights have expanded somewhat over the last 10 years (concealed carry laws, expiration of the assault weapons ban).

This is very likely to change in the next 4 years.

How are we going to shoot-down any Dem bills with a fillibuster-proof Senate?

I appreciate your concern and I'm sympathetic to your general view (in a well armed civil society) but your conclusion about ‘a law outlawing semi-auto pistols and rifles’ is completely baseless.

Wrong. Schumer, Feinstein, Kennedy, and others are on record as advocating such a ban because "hunters and target shooters don't need cop-killer weapons."

I can’t get past the timing of the financial crisis. The chance of this happening randomly one month before the election approaches zero.

They also support nationalization of the oil industry and free pie for everyone, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen.

I believe in buying insurance, but insurance on an event which is all but certain not to happen is just a waste of money.

Do you really think DC will be stopped from reimposing every ban they had before Heller? I can see angry protestors on the steps of SCOTUS intimidating them from overturning new bans. Obama’s police will be mysteriously absent. I don’t think you understand the depth of the Left’s evil.

I have lost count of the number of fellow conservatives here in MA who have opted-out of the Lib economy and gone cash only.

the Democrats and Liberals and Socialists who dream of a gun-free United States, which they’ve been trying to achieve through back door trickery, are stymied, perhaps permanently.

That is naive. Heller OPENED the door to 'sensible regulations'. Read the Scalia opinion carefully, pick out the parts the left will parse out.

Secondly, they don't HAVE to ban any weapons, even though the AWBII will be tried. All they have to do is raise the taxes on components to such an outlandish height, few will be able to afford it.

Is it even worth trying to get a carry permit?

You should carefully read bothe Heller and the pending new AWB ban for the definition of “ARMS” and compare to the UN convention. That’s what’s coming.

The NRA was taken over, like most US groups with possible political clout, at the very top. The NRA since has not met a single gun control bill they could not compromise with and accept the desired outcome.

Please note the definition goes way past (before) 1898, including any firearm “originaly built or designed for military use” M-98 mauser? Flintlock?

In law, the DEFINITIONS rule.

Depends on your locality. Some, like here in NM, have a misdemeanor charge for carrying concealed without a permit.

I'd suggest taking the class and going through the paperwork necessary, applying after that is up to you.

We are not going to have an easy 2 years at the minimum. Every Congressional session, as long as the Dihms are in control, or until NObama is gone, will be hard on gunowners.

Part of what we have to do now is find and promote pro-gun candidates in preparation for the elections in 2 and 4 years. It's not the WH that concerns me as much as the control of Congress and the SCOTUS picks that have me worried more.

McCain was polling pretty strongly after the GOP convention until the financial meltdown hit, and he just simply could not recover

Utter mismanagement. He should have been waving the 2005 bill to provide oversight the Dems killed in Committee and gone in like a Valkyrie, not with his hand across the aisle.

Instead of putting the blame squarely where it belonged, on the Dems in Congress, he allowed himself and Bush to get the blame for the mess. Where in the Hell was the President, who could have laid the groundwork for this in an address to the Nation, who could have described events leading to the trainwreck without the MSM filters?

Whoever is pulling the strings behind the scenes is giving some really bad advice, and if it isn't intentional, it only emphasizes the disconnect between ranking Republicans and RNC advisors and the electorate.

Either way, we need to know who these people are, and make sure they don't work for the RNC again.

Do you honestly think that independent voters would have any grasp of the subject? Countless voting models are run solely around economic factors. And they are generally the best predictor of the end results of an election. Swing voters simply know the economy sucks, and they know the party in the White House, and the worse the economy is, the better the other party does.

I will agree with that. McCain had a bad hand and probably could not have won no matter what. But his campaign folks played the cards they had poorly.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of gun owners that believe that the gun control threat is over since the supreme court decision upholding the second amendment. When I would bring up gun control with some pro-Obama gun owners, they would laugh and say, “It's over, we won...”
