Newsweek’s Thomas: ‘Slightly Creepy Cult of Personality’ Around Obama
News Busters ^ | November 06, 2008 | Matthew Balan

Posted on 11/06/2008 5:30:55 PM PST by RobinMasters

Newsweek’s Evan Thomas and Jon Meacham shared a bizarre Obama love-fest session with Charlie Rose on the PBS host’s program on Wednesday. Meacham stated that he was "very struck watching the stagecraft" of Obama and pointed out how Obama gave his victory speech by himself: "...[H]ave you ever seen a victory speech where there was no one else on stage? No adoring wife, no cute kid -- he is the message." Thomas went one step further in this vein: "There is a slightly creepy cult of personality about all of this." Rose confronted him on his use of this phrase, and he explained that it made him "a little uneasy that he's so singular. He's clearly managing his own spectacle. He knows how to do it. He's a -- I think, a deeply manipulative guy..." Later, all three marveled about how it was "amazing" that Obama "watches us watching him."

Thomas and Meacham appeared during the second segment of Rose’s program on Wednesday night. The host first asked Thomas about how Obama seemed to be "always in charge of this campaign." After giving an anecdote about a meeting in which Obama discussed his vice presidential pick with his advisers, Thomas commented that Obama is very inclusive, yet very self-contained. It's an unusual leadership style."

I think that 54% figure comes from an exit poll--I don't believe it was that high really. If Obama got 52% overall, and 95% of the black vote, which is mostly Protestant (with Muslims and Catholics as small percentages), I think the Catholic vote for Obama must have been below 50%. Probably if you just counted people who go to Mass every Sunday it would be well below 50%.

The Catholic bishops didn't do enough--some spoke out on the abortion issue but most didn't, or treated it as no more important than being opposed to the death penalty, being in favor of illegal immigrants, or being opposed to the Iraq war. I wouldn't be surprised if the vote for Obama among the bishops was way higher than 54%.

They are probably remembering that most of these demons with narcissistic personality disorder, at one point or another, purge the ranks of their fanatic followers-—usually beginning with journalists and teachers!

“..Obama had 54% of Catholics vote for him even though by supporting him and his strong pro-abortion stance you committed a mortal sin as defined by the Pope and almost all the US bishops.

This act alone has done more to destroy the moral fabric of the flock for the Catholic church in one fell swoop then Satan has been able to do in the past 2000 years...”

You’re right, nevergore. A verrrrry valid point. I believe the Word says that “....even the very elect will be deceived...Matt. 24:24” He’s sure pulled that stunt so far with that act. He’s definitely “weird” for sure.

I don’t know if he is the antichrist, but things about him are very strange. He picks as his chief of staff, a man name Emanuel........God with us.........

I am sure he doesn’t think about things like this, but then again, IMO he is not in control of all that happens either.

“They thought Obama’s sleazy “Fairness Doctrine” would save their lousy media.”

They will not use the “Fairness Doctrine” wording again. Just look at all the other things he has been associated with. They all use exactly the opposite meaning of what they are.

This group is NOT stupid. Worse the press covers for them or just ignores the deception. Most the the public is to stupid or mesmerized to really find out what it is all about.

“Where does it say that the anti-christ will be part of the Muslim descent and in his 40s...”

The Bible doesn’t reference the coming of the evil one as “of muslim descent” since the Bible was written centuries before islam even existed as a religion. However, that certainly doesn’t mean that the Son of Perdition can’t use it as a stepping stone to his ‘one world government’. Osama could certainly be the predecessor as mentioned in a couple of previous posts. Just his position on abortion alone reveals pure evil in my humble opinion.

One thing I hate is people making up crap in Revelation.

Nothing of the sort in there, other than massive christ-like appeal.

The Anti-Christ CANNOT gain a huge following, without a message of peace, love and common good. The name itself is what he will be, someone pretending to be the second coming, or in the case of the Jews and Muslims, the first.

True. As the great deceiver, he’ll have to do just that. In the meantime, lets watch and see what this guy does..... He’s inheriting some pretty rough stuff worldwide. Lets see how this so-called “anointed one” handles it.

And this guy hasn't? Though I don't know if he is or might be anything but in responding to your post... he did get a huge following and didn't he do it with a message or the supposed message of peace love and common good (and lower taxes, higher incomes, clean air, etc, etc)? Everyone heard or think they heard exactly what they wanted?

And that isn't too weird? He may not be the AC but he is pathologically...(?).... And that would make many of his voters/followers/believers...... what?

THOMAS: "There is a slightly creepy cult of personality about all of this."

If he hasn't been trained in mass hypnosis, he's getting help from infernal powers.

It's amazing how stupid, gullible, and moronic his kooky zombie followers are to fall for this stuff. He's a Fabian Socialist manipulating white guilt and making crass demagogic appeals to class envy and infantile utopian fantasies of statist dependency. Just add some Kool-Aid...

Fouad Ajami was right to compare this to Third World street hysteria.

I believe 0bama is delusional with truly grandiose expectations of his anointing. He is a megalomaniac whose only achievement is winning the Presidency. He has no accomplishment to warrant this achievement. He may soon start exhibiting some mental disorder. He comes across as a total narcissist who isn't in touch with reality.

In an aside.....I can't figure out how he will swear to uphold the Constitution when he has said he believes it to be ‘fundamentally flawed’. Archived audio is not his friend.

I had seen this article posted elsewhere. It piqued my curiosity, and it has been a loooooog time since I had my Abnormal Psych classes, so I started an Internet search. According to what I found, the symptoms are absolutely on target.

HOWEVER, the gentleman writing the article seems to have very dubious credentials. (He and Wikipedia appear to be embroiled in a flame war.)

According to “Psychology Today”, the symptoms of narcissism are: Overreacts to criticism, Uses others to reach goals, Exaggerates own importance, Entertains unrealistic fantasies about achievements, Has unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment, Needs constant attention and positive reinforcement, Is easily jealous.

I haven't found anything that disagrees with the posted article. In other words, folks, we may be in BIG trouble.

I followed your link and read the entire article. Words escape me. It was fascinating and bone-chillingly frightening at the same time.

I know a lot of folks on FR don't care for Savage, but (roughly) a month ago he was describing NPD and how it fit with o.

Since this is a mental disorder, it makes me wonder that as things deteriorate if the cabinet or congress would actually have the guts to invoke the 25th amendment (section 4) and remove him from office on the grounds that he cannot execute.

I suspect though that they'll be like the Slim Pickens character in Dr. Stranglove and ride this baby all the way down.

I’m sorry. He is not the anti-Christ. He is the Messiah himself. Didn’t you see the Youtube of Farrakhan saying Barack is the new Messiah? Get with the program. Barack will provide all things, pay for all things and be a benevolent leader. /s

I was watching Ken Burns’ “Civil War” documentary last night and I finally figured out where the “watching us watching him” idea came from. Thomas is plagiarizing Shelby Foote’s commentary from episode one in which he describes President Lincoln as “highly intelligent” and that: “everything he did was calculated for political effect.” I may post a clip of the video to youtube if anyone is interested.
