those are gubmint subsidized buses
running with an anti religious message
It's a silly question. Without a supreme arbiter and definer of what is "good" that definition is left up to the individual.
I appreciate the explanation, but I’m not sure how this is not both news and activism... news for the obvious reason that it is, well... news. And activism because it is from the obvious activist views of the Humanist Society.
However, I’ll be careful to abide by your wishes.
Thanks for the heads-up.
The atheist condescendingly pats the boy's head and smugly explains that there are no such things as monsters, and then he enters the woods and promptly gets eaten by a bear.
Moral
The atheist is smart enough to know that there are no such things as monsters but dumb enough not to take heed
Very good!
People do not understand thre is a huge assault against religio going on the left is relentless they don’t just not believe in God they hate religion.
Bertrand Russell said: “Outside human desires, there is no moral standard.”
I crush mosquitoes when they irritate me. May I also crush atheists when they irritate me?
Should I refrain from squashing them “for the welfare of society”? Who’s to say seeking the welfare of society is moral or not? Who’s to say that the very survival of society is moral or not?
Dariwnism measures goodness in terms of survival value
Will Durant wrote:
“If life is a struggle for existence in which the fittest survive, then strength is the ultimate virtue, and weakness the only fault. Good is that which survives, which wins; bad is that which gives way and fails.”
Bernardi, the German General and military writer:
“Might is at once the supreme right...War gives a biologically just decision.”
Here’s one you’ll like from Nietzsche:
“Man shall be trained for war, and woman for the recreation of the warrior: all else is folly.”
“Moral” atheists borrow from the creed of others. They may include mental giants, but they are moral pigmies.
Exactly, even people who don’t acknowledge God know right and wrong. It’s just that without God, their morality is absurd and ultimately indefensible. Nevertheless they cling to it.
“Good” as defined by whom? Atheists? Liberal Democrats? Clearly religious people are out in the new Atheist Utopia. So, we will set our moral watches by those who live a strict code of moral ambiguity; who, when caught doing wrong, scream “how dare you judge me?” Talk about chaos. Such a society could not possibly survive in the long run with such an outlook.
I should start an atheist chapter that is against abortion, homosexuality, illegal-aliens, Democrats, socialists, marxists, and communinsts.
That would be fun! A nice website everyone could visit, meetings, marches, protests.
I’ve heard atheists are very accepting of people of diversity.
I can go with all but #1.
Excellent post! I agree and it is a good question to pose.
We forget that we have an enemy who is fighting tooth and nail to deceive and confuse. It is even more apparent in this day and age.
You have all made excellent points about “being good”. It’s true that outside of God there is NO GOOD! Therefore everyone can define it for themselves.
I believe this was more of a hit against Christianity than it was for their humanist view point. They obviously are sending their main message “Why believe in God?”
I agree that this is religion on government buses and should be taken down or give God and Jesus equal space to answer that very question!
I surely do not. You?
I think the answer is obvious: They don’t believe in God but they DO BELIEVE in Santa Claus. Of course, now they think they’ve elected him.
This was a big issue for C.S. Lewis, who maintained that without some kind of awareness of a higher goodness or justice, we could have no understanding of the concepts of "goodness" or "justice", any more than a fish could know that it's wet.
Heaven forbid.
When the Humanist society becomes an FR chapter, they will be more than welcome into the Activism sidebar.
