Ads proclaiming, "Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness' sake," will appear on Washington, D.C., buses starting next week and running through December. The American Humanist Association unveiled the provocative $40,000 holiday ad campaign Tuesday.
In lifting lyrics from "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," the Washington-based group is wading into what has become a perennial debate over commercialism, religion in the public square and the meaning of Christmas.

A better question is, if there is no God then what is good? After all, Nietsche the Athiest claimed power was good, and compassion, forgiveness, and kindness was weakness and thus evil. Hitler adopted much of Nietsche’s ideas.
Because without God there is no basis for good and without basis, goodness is living and breathing just like our Constitution has become.

There is no such thing as "for goodness sake."
Expecting an atheist society to be law-abiding is like expecting a house full of children to behave and play quietly and share when there are no adults in the house.

If I didn’t believe in God, I’d make up my own definition of good. Why should I adopt anybody else’s definition of good?

Where do they think they got this whole concept of “goodness” anyway? Let’s look again at how well their ideas have worked in Cuba, China, the former (and future) Soviet Union, the former (and future) Eastern bloc, North Korea, Vietnam, etc. and etc.

Although an Atheist will never admit it, God has written his law into our hearts. All people have a sense of right and wrong. They have an idea of what is good or bad, but where does that sense of morality come from? Morality does not exist in nature. My point is that the concept of “good” does exit even amongst Atheists, but I have never heard an Atheist explain how they decide what is good or bad, right or wrong, moral or immoral.
How does the rule go: "If there is no God - everything is permitted".
So it really comes down to this: Do you live in Mr. Rogers neighborhood or Mr. Hitler's neighborhood. Take your pick who defines 'just be good.'
Just maybe, God is a pretty good idea after all.
Perhaps if God had a last name? God Smith? Jones? Then the godless could have an easier time relating to him?
