Secretary of State Hillary Clinton? It's Being Considered
ABC News ^ | Nov. 13, 08 | Martha Raddatz, Jake Tapper and Z. Byron Wolf

Posted on 11/13/2008 9:10:01 PM PST by cdchik123

ABC News’ Martha Raddatz, Jake Tapper and Z. Byron Wolf report: Sen. Hillary Clinton, who was President-elect Barack Obama’s leading rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, is being considered for the job of secretary of state in the Obama administration, sources with knowledge of the transition process tell ABC News.

Discussions about Clinton, D-N.Y., being asked to accept the post are "very serious," an Obama source says.

Asked about the reports on the Cabinet post and another report that Hillary Clinton went to Obama’s home base of Chicago today, senior Hillary Clinton adviser Philippe Reines said, "Any speculation about cabinet or other administration appointments is really for President-elect Obama's transition team to address."

Pushed on whether she physically went to Chicago, Reines said only that she had no public schedule today.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., has been considered a leading contender for the post. But last week, ABC News’ chief Washington correspondent George Stephanopoulos reported on "Good Morning America" that Clinton also was in the running to be Obama’s secretary of state pick.

Though Clinton and Obama ran a contentious primary campaign for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, Sen. Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, both campaigned for Obama in the general election campaign against the Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Asked if Hillary Clinton would consider the secretary of state job, a former official in President Clinton’s administration said, "I think so. What would you rather do -- be senator or secretary of state?"

Syria's Bashir Assad talked with Pelousi.

Rather than blaming conservatives who couldn't vote for a Rino piece of crap how about blaming McCain for being a Rino piece of crap.

Better Secretary of State than sitting on the Supreme Court for the next 30 years.

As bad as that might seem, I fear Obama's first nominee to the SCOTUS will be far, far to the left of Hillary.

That goes without saying--and I have said it. (One night I'm here getting criticized for blaming McCain, now I get it for daring to blame some of US.)

McCain sucked as a candidate. Yes, we know. But the choice was one or the other. Those who bragged about having the "courage" not to vote for him because then the party would somehow make a comeback, well, they seem to forget that the universe doesn't go by their intricate little plans.

Those who stayed home and didn't vote for McCain for some reason have helped give us Obama--yes, McCain obviously is a huge part of that, but the "real conservatives" shouldn't be so shy. They'd be boasting if they supported him, saying we owed them for saving us from Obama.

Yet they're awful quiet now. I'm trying to imagine someone worse than Obama, and I'm having a hard time.

So--thanks, guys! Hope your self-regard keeps you warm as Obama catches fire with the population, which seems to really dig this "something for nothing" idea of his.

I’d like to thank all the folks who couldn’t stomach voting for McCain. Thanks so much, you !!!*&^#%$#@s!

Yes, I'm sure their moral superiority has them quite thrilled at the prospect of what "0" wants to do to our nation.

I would add my thanks to the third party voters who put Chambliss into a runoff, and Gordon Smith, Norm Coleman, and Ted Stevens into defeat.

The destruction of America will go much more smoothly now.

The thing that gets me is they sat at home because, they claimed, we needed this downtime to flush out the RINOs and then in a couple of years REAL conservatism would make a comeback.

Well, it sure looks like Obama caught that one coming, and he's going to try to keep power the old-fashioned way--by buying it.

The dems got the black vote in the 60's with civil rights; they've now got them forever, at least in all of our lifetimes, for being the party that got the first black president elected. But that's not all they've done--they've paraded Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and others who should be ASHAMED of themselves out in public view, and at least in Frank's case got them re-elected again. And Frank is asking for bailout money for the auto manufacturers--and he will get it from Obama.

OK, so now the Dems have secured the black vote and the union vote--where we might have picked up some on the social issues/Reagan-issues appeal. That's in addition to single women.

By allowing Obama to take power, we've given him the opportunity to jack up taxes into space, and if you don't think his wealth redistribution scheme is going to result in a kind of reverse Bradley effect (people claiming they don't care for redistribution voting FOR candidates who approve of that), you ain't payin' attention. Obama is going to keep this class war going, and guess what we learned in this last election? PEOPLE...DON'T...CARE. They're not shocked by Marxism, terrorism, drug use, high taxes for The Rich.

So I wish the "Principled Ones" would tell me how this "strategic loss" somehow heads off a larger disaster, when Obama and the Dem majority are in the position to secure the government in their hands for a generation.

Agreed, Chambliss and Coleman especially.

I can kinda understand the logic of letting McCain lose, but I'm not really up to speed on why these loons think giving the Dems EVERYTHING is a smart maneuver. People are going to get used to government paying for everything, and in four years if someone comes around saying "I'm going to Washington to end the Obama health coverage, lower taxes on the rich, and stop bailing out the companies you work for," will they expect people to say "Yeah, take it all away!"?

I am reminded of a thread where I suggested social security needed to be trashed, and FReepers protested that they wanted what was coming to them from what they put in. That's exactly the mentality that's going to keep the Dems in power perpetually--Dems = Gives You Stuff, Reps = Cuts Government Programs YOU Use.

Not to mention hainvg the ‘global test’ before any action on our part would be allowed to take place. First up - Lets see how the resurgence of a Russian presence in Cuba is handled this time around. (hint: I’m considering a move to the far North, Montana or Alaska)

I think that this is a false fire lit by the Clintons.

They want back in to power any way they can get it.

Obama will not play along.

I have a question you might be able to answer.
We hear about the huge black vote and now the hispanic vote.
I dont see blacks as having that much influence on national elections if blacks = 13% of the population and many black males cant vote because they are felons. I would have thought the PUMAS almost cancel the black vote. What am I missing?

AS for the hispanics, they just became a force in the past twenty years that America has encouraged and allowed Mexicans to get their backs wet. But they should not be allowed to vote so they should have little influence on a national election.
