Heresies and Other Truths (Kathleen Parker attacks GOP evangelicals)
Townhall.com ^ | November 19, 2008 | Kathleen Parker

As Republicans sort out the reasons for their defeat, they likely will overlook or dismiss the gorilla in the pulpit.

Three little letters, great big problem: G-O-D.

I'm bathing in holy water as I type.

To be more specific, the evangelical, right-wing, oogedy-boogedy branch of the GOP is what ails the erstwhile conservative party and will continue to afflict and marginalize its constituents if reckoning doesn't soon cometh.

Parker is ignoring the fact that McCain, who rejected the religious right and would not campaign on its issues, lost an election soundly, while Pres. Bush, who accepted the religious right and did campaign on its issues, won two elections in a row.

>>>>>Of course they hate God just as much, ..... They want to pretend the Bible does not say what it says..... The RINO’s will more and more, join the Left, because they too, have rejected God.<<<<<<<

That’s exactly the sort of ridiculous swill and blather that’s expected from your camp.

Neither the GOP nor conservatism is a church, a religion, or a pulpit.

“Religionists” won Prop. 8 in liberal California. Give them a candidate to vote for, and that party will never lose. Rockefeller Republicans mock religious conservatives at their peril. This country was founded on Christian principles and religious tolerance. No, conservatism is not a function of religion, but the conservative movement would be dead without it.

yeah, mccain was their perfect pick. He believes in evolution and global warming. Supported embryonic stem cell research. Directly went after evangelicals in 2000. But he lost because he was too religious. Right.
This is what the map would look like without religious conservatives:

if reckoning doesn't soon cometh.

Parker should think before she writes. Or maybe she is just too dumb to know that this clumsy attempt at writing in King James style should be "if reckoning doth not come soon"

>>>>>its the few people who have hijacked the message of family values and turned it into hate-mongering, mormon-bashing, muslim-bashing, gay-bashing, and whatever-other-group they don’t like bashing.<<<<<<

And the really repellent bashing that occurs right here on FR, of those who strongly disagree with the Religionist agenda vis-a-vis the GOP and conservatism.

Fair or not, we evangelicals get blamed for the few people who would actually beat up a gay person for coming on to them.

Were you thinking clearly when you wrote this? You think the only people who would take offense at being hit on by a gay person are people who are "too Christian"? That's idiotic.

No, the problem are religious republicans and non-religious republicans who want to spend and borrow a lot of money and bailout everyone.

I think you are onto something.

While we are at it we need to include religious and non-religious republicans who support open-borders or amnesty.

We can be against gay marriage without wanting to consign gay people to second-class status.

they did it to themselves when they started to attack and invade churches.

let them enjoy Obama’s socialism because they will not be happy with Jindal and Sanford, even though they are smart and accomplished fiscal conservatives.

Charles, that really is a false statement.

I dare you to find any evidence that would support that implied assertion that Christians or conservative republicans have a general spoken or un-spoken belief that matches that bizarre statement of yours.
