CLEVELAND - The cities of Cleveland and Akron got more than 1,000 firearms off the streets in gun buy-back events this weekend.
The city of Cleveland's 2008 gun buy-back program netted 324 firearms Saturday at the Cleveland Convention Center, Lt. Thomas Stacho said. Last year, police collected 421 firearms.
In exchange for operable handguns, citizens got a $50 gas or food gift card, two tickets to a Cavs game and were entered into a raffle to win up to $1,000.

The streets of Cleveland are safe......
$50 per? What a racket. Bet those cops will have fun picking out the good stuff for their personal collections.
The homeys brought in all the stolen, broken weapons and hung onto their semi-autos, autos, and RPGs. Now every time I get a gun pointed at me in Cleveland, I’ll know it’s a working firearm. Thanks cops.
I should construct a pile of operable cheap-ass knockoffs and collect free monies!
Well, now we know the price of giving up your freedom. And I thought it was a Middle Class Tax Cut and Free Health Care with a bit of Hope and Change on top.
I feel for the Patriots that died giving us the Freedom we toss aside so easily.
Anyone stupid enough to participate in such a program is probably too stupid to operate a firearm.
I always wonder how many people turn in unique firearms that do not know their value at these. To see them melted down is a shame.
LOL Yeah... drive up with a container truck load of some Pakistani made .22 derringers you bought for $20 and demand your $50 a piece.
Then, take a year off work.
I’ve got a Jennings .22, looks a lot like that, I’d take $50. You can count on it doing one of three things everytime: a shot, a jam or a `stove-pipe.
Yeah, I have a similar Jennings .22 (which I actually like) and wouldn’t let it go for that. And whatever they offer they’ll have to add $20 for the holster.
There are firearms laying around on the streets of Cleveland?
FINDERS KEEPERS!!!!
I’m buying for $50. Cleaned up the action on mine and I can’t get it to fail.
... and selling the rest at gun shows .....
That jennings would go for 100 bucks used
I’ve had our revolutionary forefathers on my mind a lot lately, and what they sacrificed for freedom, for us to throw it away with both hands. Who says the human race is getting smarter?
Some of then are like that.
It wasnt exactly a quality fire arm.
Sell it at a gunshop, youll get more than $50
1,000 new victims.
