CLEVELAND - The cities of Cleveland and Akron got more than 1,000 firearms off the streets in gun buy-back events this weekend.
The city of Cleveland's 2008 gun buy-back program netted 324 firearms Saturday at the Cleveland Convention Center, Lt. Thomas Stacho said. Last year, police collected 421 firearms.
In exchange for operable handguns, citizens got a $50 gas or food gift card, two tickets to a Cavs game and were entered into a raffle to win up to $1,000.

Then I'd plant the new sculpture on Wall Street, with a bronze plaque telling visitors who and what keep them able to live a free life.
Jennings Bryco, right—a little swordsman on the side? Yep, pot metal frame, terrible trigger and a striker. Deafening report for a .22.
I’ve heard the larger calibers are OK but this one is a `pip’.
I’ll prolly hang on to it, it was my first gun, bought when I was a student. It’s in pieces in a coffee can in my barn, not sure it’s safe to shoot, so I wouldn’t even give it anyone.
I just looked on gunsamerica they are selling $75~$80 bucks.
you paid what? $35~$40?
Years ago in Florida, some old guy turned in a Japanese rifle he had kept in the back of his closet for decades and got $75.00 for it. Turns out it was a very rare item and worth about $5,000.00 to a collector.
Crap, why don’t they have these where I live. I have several guns that I couldn’t give away if I tried. Could get enough scratch for a new .22 and tickets to the ball game!
The raffle should be for a new DPMS AR-15.
If it was an Arisaka with the Emperors Chrysanthemum on it it was worth that. If the symbol was ground off per US order, they are $150 dollar rifles
About 5-10 bucks more, it has walnut grips, chrome finish. Most may be a good guns but this one’s a lemon.
I wouldn’t even sell it to a libacrat or RINO .... :^)
They were sat night specials.
Cheap cheap cheap
The Japanese ideographs on the rifle receiver ring below the chrysanthemum in the photo translate as “99 Type.” Many of chrysanthemum markings were ground off the rifles by surrendering Japanese troops because it was considered a disgrace to hand over a rifle was considered the property of the Emperor. An unconfirmed tale has it that General Douglas MacArthur at war’s end also ordered the chrysanthemum markings removed from captured Japanese rifles as part of the process of de-deifying the Emperor.
Maybe MSNBC will go even further and publish a list of the names and addresses of these idiots who gave up their weapons. That would make it even EASIER for the thugs to rape and pillage their families.
I won’t call any gun a `Saturday night special’ even if this is a cheap piece.
That’s just a way gun-grabbers try to stigmatize guns generally: `We will allow you your 2nd Amend, right: as long as it’s not a Sat. night special, or if it’s not an `assault weapon’, or if it’s only for hunting, or if you really need it.’ Next thing you know, you’re England and can’t have an air-gun.
A poor man may need a gun too. But now that I’m not poor I can slip a Beretta Tomcat in my pocket, a sweet little .32.
I agree 1000% I am no gun snob.
Po’ people have rights too
Just days after the Japanese surrendered on board the battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay in September 1945, Filippelli purchased the gun and a Japanese saber at a small shop in Tokyo.
He said the rifle "struck him" because of its strange shape and how heavy it was. It was marked with an insignia and the serial No. 47.
"You could buy anything for a couple packs of cigarettes," he said.
Arisaka Type 99 pressure test rifle
Interesting! I love Milsurplus Because of the historical significance!
Very cool
Holy carp! look at the receiver ring on that thing!
Not much chance that that thing would explode.
And that would represent what fraction of the firearms in criminal ownership in that city? What a joke!
Probably depends on your local cops.
My department bought street guns with the help of a "Sports-Authority" coupon promising discounted sneakers.
Many firearms were inoperative, some were definite collectors' items (in the thousand$), and the last buy-back included a brace of high-end Anschutz air rifles! Anything to get those numbers up!
