Islamic charity's assets frozen

In a major expansion of the financial war against terrorism, the Bush administration on Tuesday froze the assets of one of the nation's largest Islamic charities, alleging it serves as a front for the militant Palestinian group Hamas.
The freeze order affects the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, which is headquartered in Richardson, Texas, and has an office in southwest suburban Bridgeview.
The president also blocked assets of two financial services companies based in the West Bank that have long been accused of supplying funds to Hamas.
White House officials took the step--the first since Sept. 11 to choke off funds to a terrorist group other than Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda network--after a pair of suicide bombings in Israel last weekend. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attacks, which killed 25 people.
"The message is this: Those who do business with terror will do no business with the United States--or anywhere else the United States can reach," Bush said in announcing the freeze at a Rose Garden news conference.

Chicago’s Hamas Youth

During the 1990s, the Hamas infrastructure within the United States was complete.
It consisted of a propagation outlet, the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP); a financing wing, the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF); a command center, the United Association for Studies and Research (UASR); and a defense mechanism, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
Today, only the latter exists, along with a remnant of the IAP, the Mosque Foundation. Both have a presence in the Chicago area, where group and mosque are working hard to indoctrinate young Muslims into radical Islam.
In 1981, two Muslim Brotherhood entities, which later would be widely regarded as being aligned with the terrorist Hamas, were established within the Chicago area of Illinois.
One, the IAP, was created as a collaboratory effort between future Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzook and future Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Sami Al-Arian.
Soon after the onset of the violent Palestinian Intifada against Israel, which began in 1987 and which gave birth to Hamas, the IAP became a publishing house for the Hamas charter and Hamas terror training videos.

One of the coarse individuals the Tribune discusses in its piece is Jamal Said, the imam of MF.
Said, named a co-conspirator in the 2007 federal Hamas financing trial, is pictured shoulder to shoulder with the keynote speaker of MYLS’ Spring 2008 symposium, U.S. Congressman Keith Ellison.
Said also spoke at the event, as well as MF’s Associate Director (and former IAP board member) Kifah Mustapha and MF’s President Sahloul Mohammed.
MYLS’ Summer 2008 symposium featured as speakers teacher and board member of the Zaytuna Institute, Zaid Shakir, and Chicago Sun-Times reporter Rummana Hussain. As well, CAIR-Chicago Executive Director and CAIR’s National Strategic Communications Director, Ahmed Rehab, spoke.
Rehab, who likes to pawn himself off as a “moderate Muslim” by wearing trendy clothes and flamboyant glasses – he even posed half-nude for photos on his personal website – donned a keffiyeh for the kids. Keffiyes, made popular during the Intifada, are head coverings or scarves which are commonly worn as symbols of Palestinian violence.

According to terrorism expert, Steven Emerson, the defendants, “Shukri Abu-Baker, Ghassan Elashi, Mohamed El-Mezain, Mufid Abdulqader and Abdelrahman Odeh, could face up to 20 years in prison for their convictions on conspiracy counts, including conspiring to provide material support to terrorists.
The verdicts, read Monday afternoon, ended a two-year saga in what is considered the largest terror financing case since the 9/11 attacks.”
All five defendants are “Palestinians” and/or American citizens as well.
Elyashi was born in Gaza; Abu-Baker moved to the “Palestinian territories” as a child; both Abdhulqader and Odeh were born in the West Bank; El-Mezain was born in Gaza. One wonders why five Palestinians chose to set up shop in Dallas, Texas?
Has Holy Land Foundation monies been going to widows and orphans?
Well, maybe–but I would suggest, mainly to those whose sons and daughters have blown Israelis (as well as themselves) up.
Maybe The Holy Land Foundation paid for the kidnapping of Gilad Shalit who still remains in captivity or for the murder of countless Israel civilians; maybe their monies paid for the Qasam rockets that Hamas has rained down upon civilians in Sderot and Ashkelon. Maybe it paid for most of the weapons shipped to Hamas by boat and by underground tunnel.
