Jeb Bush to GOP: Don't Become 'Democrat-Lite'

Sunday, November 30, 2008 4:20 PM

By: David A. Patten

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush tells Newsmax that the GOP must broaden its appeal to avoid becoming “the old white-guy party,” and recommends that Republicans create a “shadow government” to engage Democrats on important issues as the incoming Obama administration seeks to enact its agenda.

In a wide-ranging interview with Newsmax, the popular former governor and younger brother of President George W. Bush said the 2008 election was neither “transformational” nor a landslide. For example, he noted that Barack Obama's significant fundraising advantage over John McCain played a key role in Democratic success this year.

Bush urged Republicans not to abandon their core conservative principles in favor of a "Democratic-lite" agenda. Still, he says the GOP does need to do some real soul-searching.

He hasn’t ‘handled’ ANYTHING. He’s screwed the pooch on every single aspect of his presidency. He IS THE worst Republican president of all time. Because of GWB we have Hussein Obama as president. Open your eyes man! Are you even old enough to remember Ronald Wilson Reagan?

“That is the stupidest thing I’ve been asked all night. Get some rest.”

No rest needed. Just Bush pardoning Ramos and Campean. That is what is needed. Your problem is that you choose to believe the drug dealer liar over two border agents doing their duty and at most committing an administrative faux pas in the reporting process. Not a criminal offense. But go ahead, side with the drug dealer. It takes all kinds.

He hasn’t handled anything? How about being the first leader of any nation to address the threat of Islamic terrorism? (For starters, let’s see what you do with that material)

You are an idiot. A total flaming idiot.

I don’t side with drug dealers, you moron, I arrest them. I don’t side with lying Border Agents either.

I am a police officer, you fool. What do you do, besides twiddle your thumbs and spout inanities to help solve societies’ problems?

You are the the stupidest person on FR by a longshot, at least the other people I had exchanges with seemed open to having a brain-based discussion.

Those ‘fiscal conservatives’ believe...

There is some truth in that. Socially liberal/fiscally conservative GOP types have been a problem. But alas there also is some truth in the converse. Socially conservative/fiscally liberal GOP types (e.g. Huckabee, in spite of his denials, e.g. those spouting "compassionate" conservatism, e.g. Big Government GOP types) have also been a problem. In the 2006 elections the backlash against the GOP was at least as much on their failure to follow fiscal conservatism as it was any social con failures. Not only should social conservatives be pushing their traditional values and touting the economic advantages history proves follow them, but they should have faith that, absent government interference in either direction, their values will be encouraged.

Pushing BOTH fiscal and social conservatism makes sense. Favoring either alone just gets some folks confused and lets the doubly wrong win. So far as I can tell to date Palin, like Reagan, strongly believes in both. Her shortfalls were those of a talented rookie with a bad manager. She's human and thus not infallible, but at this moment she's our best hope. The social cons are sold on her by her life story. Absent the albatross of McCain she needs to convince fiscal sorts nationally as she earlier convinced them in Alaska. Then ignore the wannabe lib-lite RINOs and instead peel off the many conservatives who've been delusionally voting Rat. Just as Reagan did.

LOL! Losing what little temper you have left, aren’t you. Don’t necessarily believe you are a police officer with your attitude. If you are, that’s a bad thing for those living in the area you police. Short fuse and rigid temperament does not a good policeman make. Been on this web site a heck of a lot longer than you, sonny boy, and I’d match my IQ with yours any day. You are on the wrong web site if you side with the prosecutors of Ramos and Campean. But then again, maybe you don’t support Ramos and Campean for some other unknown reason. Only the shadow knows for sure. But I wish the drug dealer was dead. He was killing our youth off with the drugs he was transporting, addicting them to a lifetime of misery. Next time I hope any border agent in a similar situation aims for the head instead of the derriere.

Did Ramos and Compean perjure themselves or not? Nothing to do with any conspiracy. They did it to themselves.

Oh come on! Pres. Bush is now blamed for Barack Obama getting in? Good grief! The worse Republican Pres.? You’re just full of it tonight, are you? Pres. Bush is no way to blame for B. Obama getting in! It’s called a lot of fraud and foolish people who were not informed about B. Obama in time for the election.

One would think from your post that Bush was some sort of omnipotent being who’s supposed to be able to stop things from happening. Or that he’s some devil that allowed bad things to happen. Most of the people that voted for Obama definitely had no love for Pres. Bush, or they just wanted a black president, or they’re extreme left! For heaven’s sake, buy a clue, will you?

“They lied about what happened. How dare you slam President Bush for not pardoning LIARS?”

But he can pardon drug dealers and that’s ok with you.

Understood.

Thanks for posting that. I read the PDF. Everyone should read it. No one else seems to be talking about this.

Wow, been here a whole two months and you’ve already started bashing Bush, eh?

I bet you lurked for a long time, though, right?

I voted for Bush twice and don’t regret the votes. He did a helluva lot better job protecting America from the Islamofacists than either Gore or Kerry would have done.

George Bush I almost destroys the Republican Party by violating his no-new-taxes pledge.

George Bush II throws away a golden opportunity to turn the country back to Constitutional government, runs up the biggest deficits ever, and lets illegal hordes of aliens run rampant throughout the country, maybe this time really destroying the Republican party.

Jeb, you might be OK, but I’d have to be head-lite to vote for another Bush.

Talk about being on irony alert.

Looks to me like he’s trying to set himself up for a leadership position some time down the road. Two Bush administrations have been more than enough, thank you very much.

“I like Jeb a lot.”

No question that he would have been a good President had it been he who pursued the Presidency. But he didn’t, and unless he plans on changing his name, his political career is pretty much over.
