FLINT, Michigan -- With 10 kids and no vehicle, Latrica Ryan is used to juggling.

Going to a movie or out for dinner is a like plotting a major tactical undertaking. Not that such outings happen that much.

"It would really be nice if I could take my kids where they needed to go, instead of having to find them a ride," Ryan said. "And when we do go somewhere, I have to pay four or five people (for gas) to get us all there.

"I have booster seats and car seats. It's a lot."

Ryan, is a 29-year-old single stay-at-home mother of five sons and five daughters, who range in age from 2 months to 13 years.

I bet there are just as many men who have more than 1 child (who they don’t support) ... with different women.

My entire response was "What you're saying is that if every single fact in this case were different, then we would probably feel differently about it?

You're probably right. But what's the point?"

And from this you think I'm saying that she should have abortions because she is black?????

You got nerve.

I am descended from a woman who was married at 15 and had given birth 17 times by age 40.

My Grandmother was married at 34 and had given birth 15 times by age 53 or about that. One son became wealthy, several children went to college (before WWII). Almost all of us grandchildren got a college education, with a number of PhD's.

"Why the second? Why not have sterilization be a condition for receiving welfare on the first?"

Because anyone can screw up once. But making the same mistake again demonstrates either irremedial stupidity or complete lack of moral responsibility.

I listed my cure in my original post. If they’re going to act like alley cats and bitches in heat we should treat them that way. Sterilize them after the first illegitimate’s born and castrate the father. I’m sick and damned tired of living with the after effects of their inability to control their hormones. These people are giving birth to huge numbers of illegitimate children growing up in homes with no fathers and where nobody has a job and by the age of 16 they’re out shooting each other in the streets, our shopping malls and movie theatres. Enough is enough.

I suspect that there are. PROVING that is more difficult. Although I could be convinced that with DNA tests, mandatory castration might be a good idea.

Cause conservatives say, that you pay for your own. Now about the Christian part..

... I'm sure that it says somewhere that we should treat her like we'd like to get treated.

I'm sure that the Bible might say something like "judge not lest ye be judged"...

The Bible talks at great lengths about money and materials. The ones who mention the treating like we'd want to be treated, do it at AVOIDING everything else the Bible teaches. Its easier to avoid the situation and the causes than to confront them.

The Bible does say to judge not, lest thou be judge. But the VERY next thing that it does say, is that by the very standards you judge, is the way you will be judged.

People have used Matthew 7:1 to avoid scrutiny for centuries. Unfortunately a lot of the true meaning is lost in translation. We are using the word Judge to cover 2 or 3 meanings. The verse(s) are talking about "judging" or condemnation of another person, but the Bible also talks about judgement that would better be described as discernment. That is not bad "judgement"

In this case the judging going on here is a mixture of both discernment and condemnation. The woman has obviously NOT shown any discernment on her part, and people are condemning her for it.

The Bible teaches principals to live by. It also teaches that when you abuse or disregard those principals, all bets are off. The Bible also teaches those of us who are interreacting with this person, of how we should be. We SHOULD be kind and caring and generous, WITH discretion. The Bible teaches that we are to come along side this person to offer aide and comfort with Biblical counsel. If that Biblical counsel is refused ar not heeded, we no longer are under obligation to help. AT ALL.

I applaude you, immensly, wholeheartedly and robustly. I hope you get the point. Big Kudos to you. And your current hubby.

With what you just described you ought to change your name from mouse1 to something grander, more formidable, something like MOUNTAIN WOMAN. Something that evokes toughness, and fortitude. ;)

I was talking with a black woman before the election, and she said that we republicans were too dismissive of the black culture, that in their world villages really did raise children, and that the husband/wife marriage construct was a western one.

It is true that when you read about african culture, you find villages raising kids, and fathers who are not really part of a husband/wife team.

But one would hope that the superiority of the biblicly ordained societal structures would be clear to a woman who is an active member of a mainstream baptist church.

Of course, she was a single mother, through no fault of her own, so maybe she was projecting because of her difficulties caused by a father who didn’t stick around.

Is that $500 per month per child? My God! That would mean that this sleezeball would be getting $5,000 a month from taxpayers to support her chillens. That can’t possibly be correct. She would be driving a Lincoln if so. I wonder how much she does actually get though. Meanwhile, those of us that ARE personally responsible are working our @sses off 9-10 hours every day to support her and people “like” her.

That sucks.

Remove welfare, remove the problem.

I'd be ok with that as well. We never should have been in the government backed business of subsidizing failure.

Dear little jeremiah,

Well then, in your estimation, she is both a slut AND a whore...

...Not sure I want to argue with you about it. LOL.

However, my understanding is that the welfare reform of the mid-1990s substantially cut the amount of welfare available to sluts like this. It seems to me that objectively, she has sacrificed very much - such as even the remotest possibility of a decent life - for very little - subsistence-level support of her brood.

Thus, at the very least, she's objectively undervalued her... “services.”

Of course, subjectively, it's likely that she's entirely unaware of what she's given up, and thus likely feels richly rewarded for access to her.

Whatever.

Dear Nea Wood,

Perhaps you're thinking of former Mayor Marion Barry of Washington, DC and his run-in with a woman with 17 children. The issue had been over public housing, which at the time was in very short supply.

The mayor was giving an outdoor press conference, and the woman approached and started to rebuke the mayor because she and her pig sty of 17 were all holed up in a local motel because there wasn't sufficient public housing for them. She actually had a husband who, if I recall correctly, had actually helped her spawn two or three of the rugrats.

So, she says to the mayor, “Why don't you get me an’ my family some decent housing??”

And he replied back just as sharply, “Why don't you stop making babies??”

And then the stuff hit the fan.

She made the round of talk shows, damning the mayor at each stop, screaming that the mayor was trying to oppress her fertility (I'm not making any of this up) and what have you. I almost felt sorry for ol' Marion.

The city went out and bought her a seven bedroom house. I think it was worth, at the time, something like $700K, which would be well into seven figures by this time.

Within a year, the house was entirely trashed.

I don't mean that there was a lot of trash in it.

I mean trashed.

All the appliances were ripped out. All the fixtures were ripped out (faucets, toilets, you name it). There were huge holes in the drywall all over the house. The house had to be condemned.

Wisdom as old as the Ages.

Recent revelations have shown that the left gives NO VALUE to the "wisdom of the ages" because we "know so much more now" than in the past.
