Probably not “thrill killing”. I suspect more of a pest management issue. However they should not have been wasted.

Now if only there was a swan season.

Canadas carry and spread Black Leg disease to cattle. Canadas at a watering hole used by cattle can be very expensive to a cattle farmer.

I believe that todays computer shoot-em-down games that are so prevalent with the new generation could cause some to take the next step to thrill killing. After all, it might get boring shooting at a screen when there is a big world out there.
If these degenerates are caught, they should get at least 2 years for each offence,to run consecutively.

“However, there seems to be a lot of issues (like this one) where any sensible Conservative would be willing to make common cause with enviro-wackos, the Gaia-worshippers, and the left-wing do-gooders.”

I see, so anybody who objects to the senseless killing of animals and wants to do something about it falls under these categories?

My daughter worked in Pinedale this summer. It is a liberal bastion, with migrant oil/gas field workers, and a scattering of ranchers. I’ve never seen such a mix of folks on opposite sides of environmental issues in one community. Gorgeous place!

Some of the locals there call antelope “range maggots.”

Which categories are you talking about? I listed the following ones:

Conservative
Enviro-wacko
Gaia-worshipper
Left-wing do-gooder

I didn't intend it to be a comprehensive list. If you want to object to the senseless killing of animals and if you feel that you don't fit into any of the above categories, I'm sure you can suggest a suitable addition.

Is this the natural migratory pattern the geese have been following forever?

Not at all. I have no beef with migratory transient birds. I am referring to the large numbers of geese that have become permanent residents on the golf courses and lakes and back yards of the southern tier of states. They are pests that have become a health hazard.

So many people move into their fly paths and then complain about geese.

I find the word murdered in relation to a deer to be silly, however.

I would hope that in a legal cull some thought would be given to offering the meat to someone. I don’t particularly care for goose, but some people consider it good eating.

They become permanent residents because there is no predators and people feed them. Turn some dogs loose on them where they can’t get a minutes sleep and they move.

We always called them "speed goats". They're very fast, and very stupid.

Ditto, ever since the Yukla 27 event, I don’t care if I ever see another goose.

Is this the natural migratory pattern the geese have been following forever? If so, any complaints make about as much sense as those waterheads who move close to an airport or shooting range and bitch about the noise.

Actually Vortex in some areas in CA, don't know about other states, the geese don't migrate any more. They have found the good life living in Golfing communities and terrorize the residents and their children(usually grandchildren actually)and crap every where and sometimes prevent people from playing golf or just sitting outside in a lawn chair.

I know this for a fact, I have friends living in one of these places and they are selling their house and moving because of the geese. These geese follow no migratory patterns except between houses in the community!
