I have been holding off on commenting on the Israeli actions in Gaza against Hamas, primarily because the handwringing from the Surrendercrats on the left has just been too embarrassing even to discuss. I tend to view these events similar to how Alan Dershowitz recently described the situation:
Israels decision to take military action against Hamas rocket attacks targeting its civilian population has been long in coming. Over the past four years, Palestinian terrorists in particular, Hamas and Islamic Jihad have fired more than 2,000 rockets at this civilian area, which is home to mostly poor and working-class people.
The rockets are designed exclusively to maximize civilian deaths, and some have barely missed schoolyards, kindergartens, hospitals, and school buses. But others hit their targets, killing more than a dozen civilians since 2001, including in February 2008 a father of four who had been studying at the local university. These anticivilian rockets have also injured and traumatized countless children.
The firing of rockets at civilians from densely populated civilian areas is the newest tactic in the war between terrorists who love death and democracies that love life. The terrorists have learned how to exploit the morality of democracies against those who do not want to kill civilians, even enemy civilians.

It would not be the first time that the impression that America is receding from the fight against evil has resulted in fighting. Every time we appear weak, distracted or unwilling to fight the stress points in the world erupt.

I can’t watch tv anymore on the news. Every time I turn it on all I hear is whining and moaning about terrorist civilians being hurt. I recall these same terrorist civilians dancing in the streets of Gaza on 9/11. I think the msm is in cahoots with the terrorists.
The Islamo Fascists openly cry for the destruction of Israel and Jews, yet the world looks the other way as Nazism 2.0 washes its filth over mankind.Well said.
I have not watched one minute of TV news coverage since November 4th and I think it is helping me cope with this whole mess. I get all of my news on FR! Try it, you’ll like it! :)
I’m wondering if Isreal is defending itself now before 1/20/09?
“Im wondering if Israel is defending itself now before 1/20/09?”
I definitely think it’s a big factor in their taking action now.
Hamas launches 2nd civil war in midst of Iraeli assault: 35 Palestinians executed, 75 tortured ...
Don't really think it matters much. I think it has to do more with the Israelis themselves on being fed up. Bush has been very weak with support and Obama is totally a stone nut for making sure Israel and the world knows that there will be no support for a war from his term.
(among other things) I think Israel is taking the opportunity to define the starting point of the next round of negotiations that O and his team will lead. Before Israel’s ground invasion Hamas had plausible deniability about the attacks. After the ond the ground intel of Hamas’ tunnels, missle locations, etc. they will go into that negotiation with stronger evidence to counter the bias they know they will face.
I wonder if Israelis even talk to their American cousins anymore, since so many of them voted for Obama. Well, Israel (and the rest of us), will reap what Liberals have sown.
All I see is complaining about Israeli brutality. Not one mention of Hamas rockets raining down on civilians, the tunnels, the suicide bombers, etc.. That’s because the fools watch CNN, and that dreadful LinkTV which is basically NPR-TV. And you can figure out how anti-American that is. They moan about the pictures of the poor Palestinian victims, etc.. When I mention the reinstitution of crucifixions by the poor downtrodden Palestinians, there’s just dead silence.
Not according to CNN. They are presented as victims.
Of course AJS is on the right track in saying this. Israel had no choice but to start the military operations they have been planning on for a long time. The election of Zero simply forced them to carry it out perhaps a bit sooner then they would have if the RINO had won.
