What Are You Reading Now? - My Quarterly Survey
1/06/09 | MplsSteve

Posted on 01/06/2009 8:48:33 AM PST by MplsSteve

Hi everyone! And a Happy New Year as well!

ity's time for my quarterly "What Are You Reading Now?" thread.

I do this to gauge what Freepers (who by the way, are a very well-read group) are reading right now. It can be anything...a best seller, a technical journal, an old classic, even a trashy pulp novel.

Please do not defile this thread by replying "I'm Reading This Thread". It became very unfunny a long time ago. Serious replies only, please.

I'll start. I'm about 5 pages into "One Day In September" by Simon Reeve. It's about the disaster involving the Israeli athletes at the 1972 Summer Olympics and about how Israel hunted down the perpetrators of the massacre. It looks to be quite good but then again, I'm only a few pages into it.

Well, what are you reading right now?!

Bolt of Fate: Benjamin Franklin & His Electric Kite Hoax
by Tom Tucker

Well researched and presented argument that two of Franklin’s best known electric experiments were actually satirical slaps at the British that ended up being taken seriously in France and Russia. I’m nearing the end. Good read.

At the moment, I am reading three books.

1. “Low Level Hell” by Hugh Mills, Jr. This book tells of the incredible exploits of a light observation chopper pilot in VietNam. I had some experience with these small birds and knew the pilots were some of the bravest I had ever encountered. This book is an incredible read.

2. “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson. A tremendously funny and most informative account of a man’s trek on the Appalachian Trail along with his somewhat inept buddy.

3. “Anatomy Trains” by Tom Myers. A book about the role of fascia in healthy movement and postural distortion.

I am about a quarter of the way through a book authored by my favorite outdoor humorist, Patrick McManus, “Kerplunk!”

I am also reading a technical book, alibi very slowly, named “Wide Bandgap Semiconductors”.

That was the first Cashill book I have read. I was stunned by the story. I have had the book for a long time but just got around to reading it after I retired.

What is Cashill's first book titled?

I finished “The Worst Hard Time” before Christmas. It was excellent

That really was excellent - I never knew what the whole Dust Bowl thing was about, thought it was just a drought.

I'm reading "World without End." Good, trashy, character driven fiction. Next on the block: Atlas Shrugged.

I finished 1776 by David McCullough last month. Just started reading “Skunk Works: A Personal Memoir of My Years of Lockheed” by Ben Rich and Leo Janos. I am an aviation buff.
