McCain Starts ‘Country First’ PAC
The Caucus NY Times Political Blog ^ | Jan. 7, 2008 | Michael Falcone

Less than two weeks from the inauguration that he hoped would usher in his own presidential administration, Senator John McCain announced the formation of a new political action committee that will work to promote Republican causes.

Borrowing a slogan from his campaign, Mr. McCain is calling the committee, “Country First,” and it is likely to help lay the foundation for his 2010 re-election bid.

In an e-mail message to supporters on Wednesday, Mr. McCain described it as a “grassroots organization” that would take up the challenge of defining “our Republican ideals and message” and support G.O.P. candidates.

“With your help we can work to elect these new leaders to governorships, statehouses, the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives in 2010 and beyond,” Mr. McCain wrote in the message. “Once in office they will become fierce advocates for limited government, economic opportunity, personal responsibility and strong national security.”

And the Arizona senator is already beginning to build up a war chest for the next election cycle, inviting supporters to become charter members of Country First with an online contribution. Suggested donations range from $25 to $5,000, the annual individual contribution limit for political action committees.

Gov. Palin should state that at this time she could not commit to support the new McCain organization as there are so many great organizations out there. I.e, hey John, GFU...

‘Someone stick a fork in that guy...he’s done.’

Yep. Screw him. He’s going to help define the GOP? Great. When the PAC gets a web site, let me know. I haven’t yet sent out any hate mail this year. John McCain seems like a good candidate for toxic e-mail #1....

Aw geesh, puke, gag, does this old reprobate ever shut up?

He is done, and he took his “party” down with him. Thinking of him gives me the creeps.

No thanks John. I did not support you in the primary but, after your selection of Sarah Palin, thought perhaps you might have realized the error of your ways.

After your weak and conciliatory type of campaign, I would prefer you just disappear and not continue to remind us of the disaster that was the election in 2008. Country first for you is quite the oxy moron....

I just got an email from Gov. Palin’s running mate on this...I told him to have fun playing with his friends in D.C. until the money ran out.

I asked him why he was silent in Gov. Palin’s defense, while rallying to the Junior Senator from Illinois on multiple occasions, why he never replies to my critical emails, and why he has not returned any of my contributions, since they chose NOT to spend it all...

grrrrrrrr.

I can’t believe McCain began his plea for support ($$$) with, “My Friend,”.

I believe that tedious verbal tic is one of the reasons his already anemic campaign for the White House failed.
