When youre selling something really expensive and not very palatable, its best to choose the words in your sales pitch carefully.
At least that seems to be the wisdom revealed in a Bloomberg report today that says Team Obama has been polling to choose the phrases it and Congress should use to promote the humongous economic stimulus package they are working on.
Bad: recession. Good: recovery.
Bad: infrastructure. Good: investment.
David Axelrod and campaign adviser Jim Margolis are behind the effort. But Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said the polling wont shape what goes in the plan, just how it is presented.

Obama's poll reportedly shows half the public would support a $1 trillion deficit to expand government during a recession.
Obambi is proving that decades of liberals in the NEA dumbing down our kids has paid off.
Here’s the deal - it’s time for conservatives to make their voices heard. We’ve tried being the “silent majority” - how’s that working out for us?? So, to take this country back, we have to become more vocal, more active and MUCH MORE in the left’s face!!
If we don’t like what Obambi and the Dems have planned for us, we either start getting angry and taking action, or we better “lay back and enjoy it”!
Not surprising since that half are probably the same uninformed zombie twits that voted for the Zero
Looks like we are back to a president that poll tests everything.
Errr . . . wouldn't that be an "investment" during a "recovery"? Doesn't matter what they call it . . . half of us will still know what it really means.
Then again, I've been thinking a lot lately about how the adjective "liberal" was co-opted by the left early in the 20th century.
The use of key words are very misleading. Part of the socialist plan to deceive people who are not well educated in economics.
I like the idea of no income tax withholding for 3 months.
That way the government won’t have to print any more money. Citizens will have more disposable income. Employers will have more disposable income by not paying the match FICA tax. With the extra money, people can support the economy better than the government printing debt, and then asking for the money back in higher taxes. The money saved would also benefit the government in administrative costs of reduced duplication of services.
I understand someone in congress introduced such a bill.
Clearly, at least half the public doesn’t believe that deficits ever need to be paid back.
Q: Are the people dumb enough to buy it?
A: Heck yeah. 10 times over!
“Obama’s poll reportedly shows half the public would support a $1 trillion deficit to expand government during a recession.”
Half the public couldnt get the number of zeros correct in the number one trillion.
I’ve seen the video speech he’s having tested..... 15 minutes of “only government can fix the economy”, etc.
They’re selling ten pounds of crap stuffed into a five pound bag.
Call it what you will, it’s still crap.
YES!
For those who hang out on FR and don't get to interact with much of the mind-numbed public, it might be shocking to realize how little most Americans understand about what's going on.
Those of us on the front lines between blue and red see how many folks just assume that Obama is positive and whatever change he wants is good. And we use the opportunity every day to provide cognitive dissonance in them by use of facts that they don't hear in the MSM--and show them that not everyone is taken with The Zero.
Half or more of the public can't spell "dollar" these day's let alone understand what it stands for.
Correction to above post...Everything else, if done excessively will come back to bite your sweet azz.
This is why the Great depression lasted a whole decade...FDR spent money on mostly non-productivity increasing projeects. The money always has to come from taxes (meaning those who are successful and productive) and it is frittered away on pork barrel items.
Kudlow says Obama’s people like the new Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner are not flaming socialists. Obama’s basically backpedaling on all promises but don’t ask don’t tell and he’ll probably get scared off that as well. But as bad as that would be, who cares if he ends up being a business tax cutter which is what Kudlow says he’s about to do - cut business taxes. They know that infrastructure big govt crap doesn’t work.
Congress, on the other hand, is an entirely different matter. If he ends up as weak as Carter, we are screwed.
His cabinet is based upon "Bill Clinton redux", he talks the talk of Jimma' Carter, recommends Leon Penetta for CIA director and you are making your statement starting with the word "IF"???
By cutting my D@MN taxes at every level!!
