Do You Want Obama to Succeed or Fail?
Patriot Room ^ | 1-19-09 | Scott Martin

Posted on 01/19/2009 2:12:47 PM PST by Scott Martin

I originally took the mindset that I would wish Obama the best during his presidency for the good of the country, but I kept having nagging thoughts that were bothering me. Rush Limbaugh said something the other day that made me realize the problem I was having:

I Hope Obama Fails

RUSH: I got a request here from a major American print publication. "Dear Rush: For the Obama [Immaculate] Inauguration we are asking a handful of very prominent politicians, statesmen, scholars, businessmen, commentators, and economists to write 400 words on their hope for the Obama presidency. We would love to include you. If you could send us 400 words on your hope for the Obama presidency, we need it by Monday night, that would be ideal." Now, we're caught in this trap again. The premise is, what is your "hope." My hope, and please understand me when I say this. I disagree fervently with the people on our side of the aisle who have caved and who say, "Well, I hope he succeeds. We've got to give him a chance." Why? They didn't give Bush a chance in 2000. Before he was inaugurated the search-and-destroy mission had begun. I'm not talking about search-and-destroy, but I've been listening to Barack Obama for a year-and-a-half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don't want them to succeed...

Look, what he's talking about is the absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care... So I'm thinking of replying to the guy, "Okay, I'll send you a response, but I don't need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails...."

I hope he fails except in preventing terrorist attacks. I also hope he doesn’t do stupid things with the military.

ZerO is a figment of Soros’ imagination with a huge cash machine and fraudlent voters, coupled with a complict media who refuses to vet the maggot.

I want him to fail so we can figure out a non-RINO to run this country.

I want AMERICA to succeed, the ONLY way that can happen is if Obama fails.

I have mixed feelings about it.

It is like watching a slow motion train wreck. You cannot avert your eyes. As an economist, it pains me to witness what I am about to witness.

Obama
In short - a man who has openly stated his disdain for free market capitalism being handed the 'steering wheel' (metaphorically speaking) of the most successful formerly Capitalist nation on earth.

It is as if I am a kind of train aficionado... a connoisseur of locomotives - if you will...

Now I have just seen the equivalent of a drunk convince a nation to hand over the keys to the most beautiful train ever built - somehow convincing them that he was the best engineer that had ever come down the pike - besides the fact that he had never even driven so much as a car before.

So it appears that this drunk has won over the whole crowd. I am the only one who realizes that he is a drunk huckster and I am 100% certain that he is going to crash the train, because he is VERY drunk and knows absolutely nothing about trains.

It's a beautiful train. The best ever built. It does not belong to me, but I am on it.

The other passengers on the train tell me to shut up and that I am a racist because I am against a black man driving the train. A black man has never driven the train before. Probably because of racist crackers like me.

I try to point out that he has no experience and does not even understand how it functions. But being called a racist by a black person is enough to destroy your credibility, so I just sit back down in my first class seat right behind the locomotive and try to brace myself as best I can against the coming trainwreck.

Yet, he is going to crash this train so hard that I cannot believe that the rest of the people on the train voted to give him the 'keys'...

So I know we are going to have a nasty wreck.
There is not a thing I can do to stop it... so I guess the only thing for a mere spectator like me to do is to watch the wreck.

So I don't know...
Do I want it to be a bad wreck... well, yes and no.
Bad enough so that Obama's trajectory vaguely resembles that of fellow traveler Salvador Allendes, but not so bad that our nation follows the trajectory of that of India - led to its path to ruin by 1930-40's Keynsians at the behest of the best experts at the finest universities in London.

Present.

Hope.

Change.

I already mute the radio when I hear his voice.

I do not want the USA to become a vassal state to the UN. No treaties that threaten our sovereignty: LOST, Child Welfare, Women’s Rights, etc. Free market, gold standard, small government. No alphabet agencies. Strict Constitutionalism. No laws infringing American rights. No laws against victimless crimes. I don’t care who’s leading, that’s where I want to go.

I would normally say with regard to any President, incoming or experienced, that I hope he succeeds. Why? Because the POTUS is the representative of all of the people, and presumeably has the interests of all of us at heart.

Well, that’s the theory, anyway.

In practice, each POTUS is a politician. They owe favors all over the place, and they’re constantly trying to make policy or influence Congress in such a way as to achieve their agenda (part of which is assuring a continuous source of favors that can be gathered, and passed out later as needed).

The real question is: do you wish Politician X, soon to be the POTUS, to succeed in achieving his agenda. If you are, like me, a traditional type of person, who believes in the ideals of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, who believes in a strong, independent America composed of independent individuals who are minimally-interferred with by the limited government...then, NO, you won’t wish Obama success - at least most of the time. You won’t wish him success in:

his redistributionist tax policies;
his desire to disarm the American populace;
his wish to reduce our influence throughout the globe;
his desire to negotiate with terrorists and associated regimes;
his promise to nominate federal judges and SC Justices that will treat the Constitution as a “living” document with no set standards;
his abortion stance;
etc., etc., etc.

If we have a confrontation with a foreign power or powers, I will wish him success if he acts in this country’s interests. If he pursues economic policies that will actually (based on logic and the historical record) increase this country’s prosperity, I will wish him success. If he stays out of our business, if he limits federal authority to those areas permitted under the Constitution, if he reins in those federal agencies that have tended to overstep the bounds of their authority (IRS, BATF, DEA), etc., etc. - then I will wish him success.

If he’s the appeasing, Marxist gun-grabber with a Messiah complex that was demonstrated in his campaign, then I wish for a failure. That will pave the way for a lessening of his power via huge losses in Congress in 2010, and probably for him being a one-termer via electoral defeat in 2012.

I just hope that he doesn’t fail on such an epic level that this country is endangered - but I will oppose him and hope that he generally fails.

Why oh why wasn’t our first black president someone like Alan Keyes, Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, Herman Cain, Clarence Thomas? <==Rhetorical.

Argh. I’m going to hibernate tomorrow.

Comrade Zero needs to fail in his implementation of his masters’ aspirations making America into a globalist, socialist, non-Republic with an Orwellian Big Brother mentality.

He should suceed in maintaining our Constitution and Democracy.

I have little hope that America will resemble in four years a Republic. It will probably resemble a direct democracy in chaos.

Man your posts! Stand your ground!

Right! Let's vote the bums out! Right? right? right??right?!!!

We are in need of a new party. Don't know what it will be but I'm looking. I'm tired of socialism/marxism moving ever forward with the only choice we have right now is democrats(heart attack) or republicans(cancer).

The time to water the tree of liberty is right around the corner...

The election was choreographed by the banks and the bankers. They don’t give a rats rear end about the people. All they care about is money. More government control = more central bank authority and control. That’s who funded and choreographed the election.
