Portland mayor acknowledges sex relationship with young man he mentored (OR - maybe a 17 year-old)

Mayor Sam Adams acknowledged today that he had a sexual relationship in 2005 with an 18-year-old man he had mentored. He said he lied when asked about it in 2007 and told the young man, Beau Breedlove, to lie about it, too.

The revelations come nearly a year and a half after Adams and Breedlove insisted, in the weeks after rumors surfaced in summer 2007, that their relationship was strictly platonic.

Adams, who is openly gay, said he had acted as a mentor to Breedlove, then 17, at a time when the legislative intern was struggling to come out of the closet.

Adams said the sexual relationship did not start until after Breedlove turned 18. Breedlove, now 21, could not be reached for comment.

"I didn't get into public life to allow my instinct to help others to be snuffed out by fear of sleazy misrepresentations or political manipulation," Adams wrote in an open letter to Portlanders in September 2007. "I understand the need for good judgment, and I work very hard to keep within the bounds of propriety -- as I did in this case."

What brought this to the forefront now was a weekly newspaper which claims that the “young man” was under 18 when the intimate homosexual relationship started.

Corrected my initial statement. The weekly, Willamette Weekly Online, is getting slammed with web hits.

He is guilty of lying about the affair during his campaign for mayor and should resign. But like Barney Frank, they may admit a “mistake” but never resign. Republican’s would be hounded out of office for the same “mistakes,” as well they should be.

This means the teenager initially refused the advances of the old queen who probably worked very hard to convince the troubled teen that he was "different" and "just like I was at your age" until the old homo finally plied the youngster with enough booze and weed to allow the molestation to occur, at which time the old fag said, "I told you you were like me".

Well according to the WW.. Adams admitted that this happened in 2005.. so the kid WOULD have been under the age of 18.

Whether is was homosexual or it heterosexual.. it was still wrong and misguided.. and Sam Adams, Lied.. during the campaign.
