Citigroup bows to pressure, cancels 7X order
Flight International ^ | Jan 27, 2009 | John Croft

Global financial services company Citigroup today cancelled an order for a Dassault Falcon 7X business jet to be delivered later this year as pressure mounted from the US Congress and even the White House.

The action is an about-face from the company's staunch defence of its order on Monday, telling news outlets that the purchase of the $40 million long-range business jet would proceed. Citigroup last year secured $45 billion in aid from the US government to continue operating amid the financial meltdown.

Key critics of the deal included Michigan Senator Carl Levin, whose home-state automobile manufacturers shed their corporate jets and flight departments in exchange for government financial aid late last year. Levin had threatened to have the US government block the 7X purchase.

I have no idea what you are talking about...These bankers basically bankrupted this country. It amazes me that freepers defend them...they are thieves not worthy of support.

You are correct.

That was one reason Citigroup gave for it being ridiculous to refuse delivery at this late date.

...which is why they shouldn’t have been bailed out.

BTW, I know a recently unemployed corporate jet pilot. I wonder if Obama is going to hire him.

When you’re paying people thousands of dollars an hour there is a practical side to not having them kill a few hours in the airport lounge waiting for a connecting flight.

I missed the lib at heart part...but whatever...the banks are Gods I guess and can take our tax money and do what they want. I hardly think expecting some strings on this money is a ‘lib’ position... why don’t you go pound sand?

"no idea"

Yes, A federal stimulus check, in the amount of $300 or $600 or whatever, back around May '08. If you didn't receive one then my mistake.

They were bailed out...supposedly chaos would follow if they were not bailed out...I don’t know seems pretty chaotic with the bailout if you ask me. Now, they have our money so they can’t do what they want...spend big and lose more money in the process.

They were bailed out so it’s a moot point.

Perhaps Citibank should have thought twice about becoming welfare queens when they had this order pending. Since the country is always better off every time a welfare queen dies, I hope Citibank and all the other banks on welfare go under before we waste even more money on them.

I ask because these aircraft don’t roll off the line in a week. Usually, you have to place an order a year or two in advance.
*********************************************************

They said on the news tonight that the jet was ordered 4 years ago.

The same banking butt kissers around here would love to see a family of 4 get kicked to the streets or missing 3 payments on their mortgage but they would forgive the corrupt banks for 40 million dollars in waste.

Because they are morally deficient.

By important role do you mean passing out fat bonus checks and living like pigs while passing their losses on to the backs of the taxpayers???

The stupidity on theis site is disturbing.

Socialism is when private institutions make bad investments and pass their losses onto the taxpayer.

Responsibility is when the same institution needs to show fiscally responsible practices for the money in which they’ve bilked from the taxpayers.
