Imagine that you have lung cancer. It has been in remission, but tests show the cancer has returned and is likely to be terminal. Still, there is some hope. Chemotherapy could extend your life, if not save it. You ask to begin treatment. But you soon receive more devastating news. A letter from the government informs you that the cost of chemotherapy is deemed an unjustified expense for the limited extra time it would provide. However, the government is not without compassion. You are informed that whenever you are ready, it will gladly pay for your assisted suicide. . .

ROME, February 23, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Bernice Jones came to Rome last week to tell the world that doctors killed her son by removing his organs. "Brain death is not death" and "organ donation is very deceptive," the bereaved mother told LifeSiteNews.com in an interview on Thursday.
Mrs. Jones was attending an international conference on the dangers of so-called "brain death" criteria and related her experience of losing her son, Brandon, who was declared "brain dead" and used as an organ donor.
"Families are led to believe that their loved ones are dead," Jones told LSN, "but in fact they are alive. You must be alive to be a vital organ donor." Families, she said, are being deceived by doctors and hospital administrators, "by everyone who is involved in organ transplantation." The declaration of brain death "is a deception, a violent deception, that your loved one is dead."

MIAMI, FL, February 23, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Ignoring a letter signed by 44 members of the State House of Representatives Friday, Florida State Attorney Katherine Rundle issued a statement indicating that no decision has been made on the filing of criminal charges against abortionist Pierre Renelique and others involved in the intentional murder of a baby born alive during a botched abortion at a Hialeah abortion clinic.
Rundle's statement was in response to a press conference held by Rev. Pat Mahoney, Director of the Washington, DC based Christian Defense Coalition, calling on her to bring criminal charges.
Rundle said in part, "While we understand the emotional perception that this is an 'easy matter' nothing could be further from the truth. The legal and ethical requirements that we be able to prove a case beyond a reasonable doubt dictate that we thoroughly complete our investigation before we come to a legal decision in this matter."

HONOLULU, Hawaii, February 23, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Hawaii legislature won't consider an assisted suicide bill that was introduced on January 24, reports the Honolulu Advertiser.
The bill, HB806 would have allowed a terminally ill adult to be prescribed a lethal dose of medication to end his or her own life. Had the bill been passed, it would have made Hawaii the fourth state in the union to permit assisted suicide, after Oregon, Washington and Montana. . .

WARREN CO., Ohio, February 20, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A woman who suffered years of sexual abuse at the hands of her father filed a lawsuit today suing Planned Parenthood and five of its employees for refusing to report signs of abuse when she obtained an abortion, with the result that the abuse continued for another 1 1/2 years.
Prosecuting Attorney Brian Hurley told LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) that the Planned Parenthood employees "played ostrich" when the girl told them she was being raped.
"We believe that they ignored Denise's cry for help ... and as a result she was sexually abused three times a week for a year and a half because they didn't meet their duties to report," said Hurley. . .
Thanks for all of these, Wagglebee. Sickens me. Saddens me. Keeps me on my knees.

"Your medical treatments will be tracked electronically by a federal system," writes Betsy McCaughey, adjunct senior fellow at the Hudson Institute. "Having electronic medical records at your fingertips, easily transferred to a hospital, is beneficial. It will help avoid duplicate tests and errors.
"But the bill goes further. One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and 'guide' your doctor's decisions."
In short, rationing.
The above quote is from an excellent editorial in the Augusta Chronicle, as reported by Free Republic (hat tip to Gateway Pundit), that focuses on Senator Jim DeMint's contention that citizens are going to need to take to the streets to protest the Stimulus Bill, not only due to the uncontrolled spending but due to the nationalization of healthcare contained in the bill.
The perpetrators of the 'economic stimulus bill (which is nothing more than a spending bill for liberal projects) inserted funding for nationalizing healthcare, the result of which will be rationing, especially for senior adults. . .

Abortion facility to close following 40 Days for Life campaign
Shawn Carney (right) of the national 40 Days for Life team, with two Orange County, California campaign leaders, standing next to the real estate sign that was placed outside the abortion facility on Day 39 of the fall 40 Days for Life. The abortion center is going to close its doors and shut down.
As you look at that picture, think about what it will feel like when the abortion facility or Planned Parenthood nearest to you posts a similar sign the day when you realize that due to your faithfulness, no more children will perish there and no more women will be wounded there.

Feb 23, 2009 Two more successes were chalked up for adult stem cell therapies recently. Science Daily said that sufferers from Crohns disease may have a new treatment option by getting injections of their own bone marrow stem cells. This now constitutes a treatment option to cure an intestinal disease that sometimes does not successfully respond to drugs and requires highly complex surgery that does not provide a cure.
Those afflicted with type 2 diabetes also have hope, thanks to adult stem cells. Science Daily also reported that progenitor cells exist in the adult pancreas. It is now clear that progenitor cells, with the capacity to become insulin producing cells, reside in the adult pancreas, said researchers from UC San Diego and the Burnham Institute for Medical Research. They found that the Wnt signaling pathway is implicated in the development of type 2 diabetes. By understanding these protein-signaling pathways, they can begin to take their stem cell research toward therapeutic treatments.
Not so good for embryonic stem cells. Nature News reported, Hybrid embryos fail to live up to stem-cell hopes. Heidi Ledford explained, The creation of human-animal hybrid embryos proposed as a way to generate embryonic stem cells without relying on scarce human eggs has met with legislative hurdles and public outcry. But a paper published this week suggests that the approach has another, more fundamental problem: it may simply not work. Researchers could not get them to grow past the 16-cell stage, and they failed to become pluripotent. The problem seems more fundamental than trying over and over again. Some ethicists may be glad for that. . .

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- With his appointment of Dawn Johnsen, a former NARAL attorney, as the Assistant Attorney General for the Office of the Legal Counsel, pro-life advocates already know they are getting an abortion advocate in the position. But, Johnsen goes further and views pregnancy as slavery.
Johnsen is a professor at the Indiana University School of Law, but she is also a longtime abortion advocate and worked for one of the leading abortion advocacy groups.
Johnsen was the Legal Director for NARAL from 1988-1993. . .

Few ideas have done more harm to the human race in the last 120 years than those of Sir Francis Galton. He founded the evolutionary pseudo-science of eugenics. Today, ethnic cleansing, the use of abortion to eliminate defective unborn babies, infanticide, euthanasia, and the harvesting of unborn babies for research purposes all have a common foundation in the survival-of-the-fittest theory of eugenics. So who was Galton, what is eugenics, and how has it harmed humanity?...
