It's been a year since Mitt Romney dropped out of the Republican presidential race, but he remains an influential conservative voice particularly on economic issues. The former Massachusetts governor and star business consultant earned ovations at a House Republican retreat in January and recently signed on to headline a major Senate GOP dinner in April. He spoke with TIME about Obama's Oval Office debut, what's wrong with the economic stimulus bill and what his own future may hold.

“But youll forgive Romney right?”
I already did. I voted for him. I hope to vote for him or Palin in 2012. I’m more likely to vote for Palin, but Romney would have been a very good president.
He didn’t change anything. He looks at you all as rubes to be manipulated. Nothing but suckers. Wake up ! He’s a con artist.
“Of course, Mitt now has a chance to prove the many doubters about his change of heart wrong—though some will never believe. :( “
I’m with you on that... Sometimes people’s values do change, and maybe Romney’s for the better. No way we can give the man a chance to prove it?
Are you saying that evangelicals prefer what is happening now in the current administration to what would happen in a Romney administration? That is beyond SAD.
I would say those evangelicals have a serious problem if their only objection to Romney is THEIR belief that Mormonism is not Christianity. That would mean their goal for this nation is a theocracy that fits THEIR standards of Christianity. We don’t need that any more than the godless administration we have now.
But I do wonder if he walked with MLK a couple of weeks ago. I didn't hear the update on that.
Meanwhile, I'm curious, does anyone here take Glen Beck seriously? How could anyone switch from Catholicism to mormonism with a straight face?
When do you start believing someone who is a pathological liar ?
He won't be out of it until they put him in the ground.
Romney would have been another socialist president presenting things to you as if ‘his’ socialism was better than ‘their’ socialism. It’s this process that has seen our cause get crushed since 1988. No thanks.
We need to return to 1988, not continue on to the left as our side has been more than willing to do.
He aint the Cats Meow, but he would be better than McCain. Not that that is saying much, but McCain was the other guy on the ballot
It's like saying Spam is almost as good as Fillet Mignon...
John McCain won the vote of Mass-going Catholics, not Obama. Try again.
The church does not support such.
So you would be mistaken.
And no, I am not Catholic.
More like a giant turdpile is as good as Filet Mignon.
Would you take the risk?
Well...
I second your post. Romney had little to say during the general election against Obama or for the GOP but now he grandstands. If memory serves me right he was for the auto bailout.
He is not a conservative no matter how many times he holds his finger in the wind to see which way it is blowing. He will NEVER have my vote.
Sick of tired of seeing articles about Romney and the idea he could have somehow won the general — give me a break! The excuses I see for him for MA are laughable as some of the programs he introduced. Posters also forget he became an independent when Pres Reagan was in office as Reagan was too conservative and then tries to wear the Reagan mantle.
You don’t see any other group of posters pushing a candidate from the 2008 primary for a reason. Most of us believe the ones that ran in the 2008 primary should not run again.
How arrogant to call so many people rubes and suckers. So Mitt fooled Ann Coulter, too? Rush Limbaugh? Recovering_Democrat? Sheriff Joe in Arizona? All four are staunch fiscal and social conservatives, field, and you seem to look upon all four with disdain for thinking Mitt was the best choice.
Disagree with the man, fine, but demonizing him merely weakens your argument.
I won't fight the primary battle again--it is over. But I can tell you that if Chuckles Crist had not endorsed McCain in the Florida primary, we might have a President Romney right now...and we wouldn't be facing the biggest friggin' Socialist/Communist State this side of the USSR.
Prior to running for POTUS in 2007, Romney spent his life denouncing Reaganism, the Contract With America and the GOP. While trampling on the Constitution and embracing abortion rights, homo rights, gun control, amnesty and socialized medicine.
Comparing Romney to Reagan, is like comparing Obama to Lincoln.
Well...he might be in the White House now instead of the Zero we have if not for the biased Mormon haters!!!
Like McCain helped himself lose the presidency to obama?!?
