From Sacramento -- The math seems pretty simple. But apparently it's too rigorous for many Republican politicians.
To avoid raising taxes and still balance the books in Sacramento, you'd have to virtually shut down state government.

I stand strong with Mr. Skelton. Yes, we need to raise taxes so that it hurts. Let’s save Kaleefornia. My plan though, is to send a tax form to all Democrats and have them check a box agreeing to a tax increase. Then, they pay the additional taxes based upon how many forms are returned. They talk the talk, let them walk the walk.
Californicateistan is over the top on the curve. Each increase in tax and/or regulation increases spending and reduces tax collections. The ONLY way to save the state from Soviet Union or Zimbabwe syndrome, is to CUT spending massively.

This is all playing out as a pleasant surprise to me. At last, the GOP has found sufficient backbone to blow up a corrupt and irreparable state government. I look forward to watching the consquences rain down on the Coalition of Shakedown Artists and “diversity” adovcates who spoiled a once wonderful state. State employees, welfare cheats, teachers, illegals — you’re all about to get what you deserve: NOTHING. With a little luck PERS and STRS will be dismantled and the full vaue of both funds (including the employees’ “share”) will fund tax credits to those who actually contribute something to the state’s economy. Now that’s the sort of wealth redistribution I can get behind!

Skelton is red to the core. The good news is that the more the LA Slimes puts him forward, the more paying subscribers and advertisers are driven away.
My thought is that if the state goes into default, the bondholders will be first in line to get paid. That would leave out in the cold the pernicious elements such as the tenured leftists—sometimes known as teachers—who should get nada. Same goes for the welfare cheats and cucarachas. As for the prisons, hand ‘em over to the California Guard and tell the Prisoners’ Rights people to f*** themselves, ideally with a carefully written SLAPP suit.
At the end of the day we might actually end up rehabilitating this once great state.

Didn’t this state recently legislate higher spending on embryonic stem cell research, and auto fuel requirements, and minimum wage and health benefits, yada yada yada in the face of these same looming deficits? How do such spenders continue to get elected and then face no accountability in the media? In fact, those who warned of the stupidity of mounting spending are excoriated by the press for their intransigence.
Oh, sure! If you withhold from Our Leaders their Rightful Due, how will Obama buy $100 a pound steak? How will Eliot Spitzer be able to afford hookers? Where will Kwame Kilpatrick find the scratch for his bling? AND, Al Franken & Marion Barry might end up actually paying their taxes!

What will become of all the Tenured Radicals (sometimes known as teachers) if they’re not paid to fill young peoples’ minds with socialist garbage and “diversity” myth?
And what becomes of those tens of thousands of sleep experimentation subjects, aka state workers, who for the first time in their adult lives will have to be productive?
Then clearly the government of California is spending too much money, has overextended itself, and needs to revise its working premise of providing a massive social safety net to millions upon millions of people.
No...wait a minute, it's all Republicans fault. They won't demand more from the taxpayer. Those greedy so and so's.

Why is that? Why does government always have to grow, AT MY EXPENSE, while I am struggling to make ends meet? Why does government seem to think that it has first claim to MY wallet, while the contents of said wallet are shrinking already due to the economy? Why are you shilling for this government?
I’d surely appreciate hearing from you as to why you apparently seem to think that I should suffer more while making sure that your buddies in government, who are largely responsible for the current economic conditions, should make out like bandits at MY expense.
