District of Columbia when it became the nation's capital two centuries ago would be granted under legislation the Senate passed Thursday.
Congress is "moving to right a centuries-old wrong," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid shortly before the 61-37 vote.
The House is expected to pass the measure with a strong majority next week and President Barack Obama, a co-sponsor when the bill failed to clear the Senate two years ago, has promised to sign it.
The measure is likely to face a court challenge immediately after becoming law; opponents argue that it is unconstitutional because D.C. is not a state and does not qualify for representation.

DC's not a state Reid, you damn fool... It's a village. DC was created to house the buildings of the fed gov. and was never to be considered, or treated as a State. It's a village that contains a bunch of the nations prominent idiots.
If the Rats can give D.C. one House of Representative member, why not two? Or three? Or a hundred?
Yeah, I stand corrected. He thinks that fourth Utah House seat is actually worth it. He doesn’t give a rat’s derriere about the Constitution.

Back in the 1840’s, the portion of DC that was ceded by Virginia asked to be be taken back so they could have representation.
Virginia said yes and those folks are now part of, and represented by, that state. That’s why DC is the size it is today - all the real estate associated with DC is that which was ceded by Maryland.
The remedy is to ask back into Maryland to get representation - it’s easier than statehood. That would leave only the WH, the Capitol and the mall as the “District.”
I think I got that right from a quick read.
Every damn day! Something new and unjust.
There was a reason there was no representative for DC and a good one.
This has got to end but when? When will people finally take to the streets? When is the uprising of outrage and anger going to take place?
I really do hope and pray that FReepers and the rest of those who value their freedom wake up and really fight these awful, awful things that the left is doing to the USA.
Folks, you won’t get these things back.
It won’t happen this time.
The masses are more ignorant than ever.
The demographics are changing. Capitalism, the constitution, individual freedom—all “white man’s magic” to most minorities.
Guess who is fast becoming the minority?
I believe that history will show that these times we’re in will be among the most pivotal in our nation’s history.

I don’t know how anyone could look out over the landscape and see this as anything but a dismantling of the principles and laws that have kept us free.
