Huge Majority of Israeli Arabs Would Choose to Remain Israeli Rather than 'Palestinian'
Keevoon ^ | Nov 2008 | Keevoon

There has been a lot of talk lately about the formation of a new Palestinian State. It has been suggested by some that Israeli Arabs could continue to live in Israel, but change their citizenship to the new Palestinian State.

""Given the choice, and continuing to live where you presently live today, would you prefer to be a citizen of Israel or of a new Palestinian State?""

62% of Israeli Arabs would choose to remain Israeli citizens rather than join a future Palestinian State. Only 14% of the respondents would choose to join a future Palestinian State and 24% did not express an opinion or refused to answer.

[Graph]

Mitchell Barak,Managing Director of KEEVOON: "The survey challenges the widely held claim that Israeli Arabs have national aspirations for statehood. Most expressed a desire to remain Israeli when given a choice. The results of the survey also demonstrated a gap between policies articulated by the Government and the citizens it would affect most. While senior members of the Government (including Foreign Minister Livni) have spoken openly about a future Palestinian State possibly including Israeli Arabs who live in Israel, most Israeli Arabs prefer to remain Israeli citizens."

The strongest support for remaining citizens of Israel was exhibited by members of the Druse community, 84% of whom would choose Israel. Lower income households also showed strong support with 71% of them choosing Israel. Men were more likely than women to choose to remain Israeli citizens (67% vs. 56%).

The strongest support for becoming citizens of a future Palestinian State was among students with 21% as opposed to the average of 14%. The largest percentage of undecided citizens was among Christian Arab Israelis with 43% compared to the average of 24%.

I’d guess some segment, possibly up to a third, of those who want to remain Israeli citizens want to do so because it’ll be easier to work against Israel that way.

Basically I thinkl they know their own leaders (Hamas or Abbas) would be distropus for them compared to ntheir life under the Tolerant and well mangaed Israel (Jews).

I don’t doubt at all that the motives of the majority are above board. But I think some minority will have other motives.

Well Duh! There’s a lot more milage to be gotten from Israeli welfare vs. Palestininian welfare.

A better question would have been “how are you prepared to contribute by your own means/work to the prosperity of the country you live in?”

Just to look at one indicator, check how many patent applications are anually filed by Arab country nationals. (If your hands are replete with all their digits that should not be a particularly difficult question to answer.)

Polls around here are bias and skewered and this is a somewhat stable place. And I lie to ANY pollster regardless of their questions or bent.
Ya think palestinians are going to tell how they feel honestly about anything?

exactly correct. this poll has been done for years, always with the same result.

the israeli arabs are not stupid. they see how jordan and egypt are run (not to mention other arab countries and the west bank). in no other middle east country would they enjoy free speech, voting rights, a fair judicial system, freedom to worship as they please and of course prosperity.

Israel has huge social benefits programs for everyone. Jew Muslim Christian what have you. Much of this is just Muslims taking money from Jews and laughing all the way to the bank

Plus Israel is probably subsidizing Muslim births the way the Europeans do

I just posted the same. These Muslims have loyalty to Israeli welfare payments and Israeli hospitals, not to Israel. They still hate the Jews for the most part
The dhimmi must always be taxed and pay the indolent Muslims....This is more of the same

Druse should NOT be included here. They are not Arabs. They are not Muslim. They serve in the Israeli army. Their loyalty is not in question.

Since 82% of Druse favored Israel and they are included in these numbers, the poll numbers are skewed. The so called “huge mjority” and “62% of Arabs” are nothing of the sort.
