Meghan McCain Knocks on Laura Ingraham on 'The View' (Video)

The weekend did nothing to quell the ongoing war between Meghan McCain and Laura Ingraham.

McCain, daughter of presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, came out last week and responded to Ingraham’s remarks that she was "plus-sized," remarks that were a direct result of McCain’s public criticism of the Republican Party.

Ingraham’s comments also included some disrespectful dismissal: "Do you think that anyone would be talking to you if you weren’t kind of cute and you weren’t the daughter of John McCain?" She went on to mock McCain as a heavyset Valley girl.

McCain wasted no time biting back, and took more shots at Ingraham on today’s episode of "The View," telling the girls, "When Tyra Banks went on her show in her bathing suit and said, ‘Kiss my fat ass,’ that’s what I feel right now. I’m like, ‘Kiss my fat ass!’" Ms. McCain, who writes for The Daily Beast, also said that Ingraham’s remarks hurt more than just her. Via Think Progress:

What do young women think when I speak my mind about politics and I want to have a political discussion about the ideological future of the Republican Party, and the answer is, ‘She’s fat, she shouldn’t have an opinion.’ What kind of message are we sending young women? … It infuriates me. I’m a political writer on a blog, and all of a sudden I’m too fat to write?

Ingraham responded immediately, and said on her radio show:

The bottom line is it’s rough and tumble out there. You wanna put yourself out there as someone who’s going to redirect the future of the Republican Party, and you’re going to have to deal with satire. You’re gonna have to deal with people teasing … You gotta just take a chill pill … Can I say lighten up or is that offensive too?

No, it’s not offensive, but remarks on McCain’s weight certainly are.

“yet another loudmouth moderate...and sucking up on enemy turf”

Enemy turf? Home turf is more like it. Maybe she is auditioning for the fat girl spot on the view?

This is nothing more than the “Progressive Republican Yuts” trying to take over the party. These are the same idiots yelling, “I'm a Republican but we love Liberal Democrats”.

“And dumb. Meghan is hardly fat.”

Are you kidding? In 10 years that chick’s going to need to wash herself with a rag on a stick.

I’m fed up with some of Ingraham’s pettiness. If she disagrees with Meghan McCain, let her do so on the issues. But she doesn’t need to be catty. It seems to me that Ingraham is a bundle of contradictions. She’s constantly railing against the culture that makes our little girls look like little tramps (and I agree with her on that.) But then she turns around and mocks the appearnce of people when she disagrees with them. Funny that she would ascribe the valley girl label to McCain, because I’ve always said that Ingraham reminds me of a valley girl when she gets catty like that.

I like Ingraham alot but leave the fat jokes out of it because

A) not necessary

B) just redirects the discussion to name calling rather than the conversation at hand.

Meghan wants to turn the republican party into a light version of the Democratic party. Her thigh measurements have nothing to do with that. Plus, Ingraham could use a hamburger. :D

Ingraham is naturally thin and I’m sure the ravages of cancer haven’t helped matters. I don’t think anyone wants to “go there” when it comes to Ingraham’s weight But, by the same token, that doesn’t give Ingraham license to be petty. They’re both beautiful, opinionated women. NEITHER of them appears to have much success in the man department, so perhaps they both need to take a step back and get an attitude adjustment.

Well, if Ingraham thinks it's OK to go there with Meghan, then she makes herself the same target. Cancer notwithstanding. Laura is naturally thin and Meghan is naturally thick (not fat in my opinion)... what's that have to do with the price of beans?

Laura is too mature of an age to stoop to rediculous and childish schoolyard attacks and Meghan needs to accept that she's not model thin and could be subjected to appearance attacks by her enemies. Balls up both of them.

Believe me, I’m not excusing Ingraham. And it isn’t just with Meghan McCain that she does this. I’ve had to tune out Ingraham on more than one occasion because she really does act like a high school “mean girl” at times. Sometimes it is because it is someone with whom she disagrees politically. Other times, it is just to be “funny”. I remember when she went into this anecdote about getting a pedicure and being repulsed that -gasp- she had to look at the fat hairy feet of the man sitting next to her.

I’m sorry, but the attacks on people’s looks aren’t becoming from a conservative, Catholic mom. She should leave that to the late night comedians. When she gets on her soapbox about how misguided the values of our girls have become, I want to give her a high five. And then she turns around and does her petty act and I am so disappointed in her.

Having said all that, the fact that she has “opened the door” with personal attacks, doesn’t mean we should respond in kind. I wouldn’t mock her looks and I do think, whether it is fair or not, the cancer affords her some immunity in that department. It is just a shame that motherhood and cancer has caused her to be more mature about such things. If anything, I would have hoped those major life changes would have made her more gracious.

Laura was catty and stupid to slam McVain’s idiot daughter on her weight. Nice job alienating lots of women, Laura. Try tucking your ego in your designer bag some time...

> It’s not that she’s physically such a heavyweight but the fact that she’s intellectually such a lightweight, AND going after conservatives with experience and intellect far superior, that makes Meghan McCain such an embarrassment.

Exactly — by going after Meghan’s weight instead of her vapid ideas, Laura sabotaged her own arguments.

Stupid. Conservatives are the ones with ideas. You blew it, Laura.

Tammy Bruce is very keen and perceptive. Actually she is the one I'd like to see in a face-to-face interview with the McCain gal. It would be difficult for Ms. M to counter a pro-choice lesbian who adores Reagan and wholeheartedly supports Palin.

Agree. It was catty to say the least and Laura is in the wrong here.

At any rate, I don’t think Meghan is fat and I believe Laura’s intention was to be hurtful. It bothers me to say that as I’m very quickly losing respect for many of the conservative women.

With guys, it seems to be different. The men in my life insult one another constantly and they all get a laugh out of it. But when women start doing it, they’re rarely good-natured about it.

I agree. I'm just surprised at how many people are noticing it now that Meghan is the one being attacked. Laura has been doing this to people -- "the little people" for quite some time.
