How does that work? The federal reserve will print up new money today to buy older money it printed yesterday?

There was a story on FR yesterday about a bank that had ignored the CRA and had no bad loans but received an unacceptable rating from bank examiners. Anyone remember where ?

The Fed should just buy all of the Government’s debt and then forgive the debt and presto no more deficit.

No! That would be like kiting a check to yourself, and that’s BAD. Baaaaaa-aaad.
The Fed is buying notes from the TreasuryDepartment. That’s an independent agency.
Therefore, it’s like kiting a check to your *wife*, and that’s OK.
Clear now? :-)

Just keep depositing your own checks to cover the last check writen for deposit.
Just order new checks before you run out of checks.
I just confused myself, but you know what I mean.

I have a feeling that after Obama is through messing up the economy, the inflation we had during the Carter years is going to look like the good old days.

No, no, it's worse. If I write a check to cover the check I just wrote, that's dumb. But the Fed is presumably buying back T-bills
with interest, so this is like writing a check to cover pay for an IOU after its accumulated a late fee.
As many folks have said, it's a good thing most Americans don't understand banking, because they would be rioting in the street. Me, I am trying to find the pitchfork...
