Mayor Bloomberg will run for reelection as a Republican this fall, the Daily News has learned, after successfully courting the party to let him back on its ballot line two years after he left it.
"Mayor Bloomberg and I have had healthy disagreements over issues at times, but I know he is the right person to lead this city forward," said Jay Savino, chairman of the Bronx GOP, who followed his Brooklyn and Staten Island counterparts to become the third county chairman to back the mayor.
Bloomberg twice ran for mayor as a Republican, but quit the party in 2007 when he was contemplating an independent run for President. He is still a registered Independent, and thus needed permission from a majority of the five party chairmen to run on their line.

Let's see:
Exhibit A. A liberal Independent uses the GOP to his political advantage and is welcomed by the five party chairmen.
Exhibit B. Reagan Conservatives are being marginalized throughout the party.
Sounds like the GOP leadership is made up of Bloomberg’s “fellow travelers.”

Has it occurred to any conservative republican YET our fight has to first be within our own party! If we do not purge the moderate/rino’s and wrest control it doesn’t matter if we win an election or two.

Let me get this straight - first he was a demonRAT, then he became a republican, then with great fanfare and threats to run as a third party presidential candidate he switched to being an independent and now he wants to go back to being a republican? And the stupid republicans will welcome him back with open arms. He needs to run as what a truly is - a FACIST!

Bloomberg’s politics fit perfectly into what Jonah Goldberg calls “liberal fascism.” He is the epitome of the nanny state. I agree that it matters little if he has a “D” or an “R” after his name. He's a fascist none the less.

One of the big problems I see is that the term republican no longer means a damned thing, but, if there is, indeed, still a republican party out there somewhere, Mike Bloomberg is the last person on earth qualified for membership!

Even if Bloomberg were the re-incarnation of the most conservative Republican or the most liberal Democrat, he has a chance of losing in New York City. There is lots of bad blood flowing between him and the citizens of New York City. Announcing layoffs of City workers isn’t going to help him, raising the tax on cigarettes and raising property taxes aren’t going to help him either.
