WHERE TO GO WITH THE TEA PARTY?
n/a ^ | 4/16/09 | A Navy Vet

Okay, you guys did good. I'm surprised about the turnout. I had my doubts and I was proven wrong. I applaud all of you for standing tall.

So now where do we from here? Do you/we continue to be out-raged and hold more TEA Partys without direction? Should we build upon the movement with lots of signs and demonstrations that the Obama, Reid, Pelosi triad ignores, or do we look at ways to effort real change?

BUT,people want to spend the 4th of July with their families with the backyard parties, fireworks etc . Washington is usually jammed then also for celebration.

If we make sure that those who are voted in KNOW they can and will be voted OUT, that’s where the impact will be. One by one, they can be reminded that they work for us. The legislators are the ones who voted for the pork — in our names. Let’s let them quaver in their boots.

"We need to turn the 4th of July into a national day of protest against socialism. No more celebrating liberty until we've regained it!"

I concur wholeheartedly.

"A massive march on Washington has to be in the works ."

I concur wholeheartedly. How do we get this to come to fruition?

If people aren’t already uncomfortable enough to change their 4th of July plans to match something of the true meaning, then the republic is lost!

Get your representative to sign on as a co-sponsor to HR-450
and tell them that in the next election we are going to ask any one running for representative to sign a pledge to work for the passage of this bill. The bill requires any new legislation to cite where in the Constitution it is authorized.

My thoughts on what needs to be done is well documented on FR. And it doesn’t include a march on Washington.

Conservatism too fractured to work on a bottom up approach. THE TP’s were good but soon many of the participants will either lose interest or start balkanizing into their respective pet issue cliques. The turf, power and “vision” battles will ensue from there and the movement will fall apart due to petty bickering.

It’s impossible to herd conservatives for any longer than a short period of time. The only way for it to endure is for a dynamic leader with a cohesive vision and brilliant game plan for acheiving victory to step forth and to tell everyone “This is my vision and plan, if you’re with me, get on board”.

The last man we had to do that was Reagan, but there are no Reagans on the horizon that I can see.

Exactly what I've been trying to tell some folks. You and I know better than most how good these protests feel, but we also know that the career politicians just don't listen nor care.

If we can't find such a leader as you state above, at the very least we should focus on one or two real world efforts to change DC.

I give EVERYONE who attended these TEA Partys major kudos for at least getting out there. I'm proud of each and every one. But you can't herd cats without a concise plan. I hate taxes and I hate big government signs is not going to get the attention of the socialist obami, reid, pelosi triad.

Good ideas. Except I would sunset all laws every 4 years. If not that, than every 10 years.

Still, I believe Term Limits is the key answer to many of DC's problems. Get those entrenched self-serving, favor-giving career politicians out and we would see a change like no other. And no, I am not concerned about lack of experience...you have career appointees who actually carry the water, and most want to do good. However, many of them need to go, also.

Another idea: Shut down any Fedgov department/agency that cannot justify its existence within the intent of the Constitution. Forget the "general welfare" clause. That has been so distorted since FDR, no one even remembers what the FF's meant by it.

But then, DC politicians could try reading other historical documents for the original intent of that clause. It never meant that all will be economically equal. It meant that all will have the "general (equal)" opportunity to secure their own "welfare (livelihood)" as protected by the several States and the Constitution they agreed upon.

Unfortunately, the politicians don't even read their own bills they vote for nowadays, so easier said than done.

This whole thing is deja vu on large scale. I hope the organizers can do something with it but calling for more parties is redundant. They need to invest the capital they’ve earned and not squander it on symbolism.

There’s only two things a politician understands, money and votes. They have the start in cornering a large voting block, they should now concentrate on expanding that into many millions and then translating those millions into $$.

It’s ugly, it’s foul, but that’s how politics is played.

You want a prediction? Look for Newt to worm is way into this movement and try to use it as his launching pad for a 2012 presidential run.

The TEA Partys were a good start. Now we need to focus on how to change the DC mechanism. WE NEED TO FOCUS ON IDEAS!

I think that if we want to have just one or two issues around which we coalesce, we should keep the focus on lowering taxes and NO MORE DEBT. Keep it at that. It is simple, it makes good bumper sticker material, and even moderates and some liberals can get behind it. The BS polls which say that most Americans are fine with their tax levels, assuming that the polls have any validity, do not take into account all of the hidden taxes that we all pay everyday. For instance, any tax on a corporation translates into higher prices on consumer goods.

The number one thing to focus on, though, would be NO MORE DEFICIT SPENDING. NO MORE BAILOUTS. Simply focus on that. Once we get a major movement with that as its focus, then we can shift into the other items that you listed.

I hope the Tea Parties will be the start of a real movement to motivate conservatives to get active. My worst fear is that the Tea Parties will serve as nothing more than rating boosters for Fox News and Talk Radio.
