Congress was told enact TARP or we will enact Marshall Law

"Marshall" is a rank in a police dept.
"martial" means pertaining to war.
The term you are looking for is: "martial law", that means military in control.

All right, et tu Jack Black? I have already presented my mea culpa’s and admitted to being one of the worst proofreaders on FR. Would 30 or forty Hail Mary’s suffice? marshall law=martial law.

Sorry. Didn’t mean to pile on. I make my share of mistakes, that’s for sure.

Anyway, back on the topic:

Here are the original remarks by Senator Inhofe:

Speaking on Tulsa Oklahoma’s 1170 KFAQ, when asked who was behind threats of martial law and civil unrest if the bailout bill failed, Senator James Inhofe named Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson as the source. “Somebody in D.C. was feeding you guys quite a story prior to the bailout, a story that if we didn’t do this we were going to see something on the scale of the depression, there were people talking about martial law being instituted, civil unrest….who was feeding you guys this stuff?,” asked host Pat Campbell. “That’s Henry Paulson,” responded Inhofe, “We had a conference call early on, it was on a Friday I think – a week and half before the vote on Oct. 1. So it would have been the middle … what was it – the 19th of September, we had a conference call. In this conference call – and I guess there’s no reason for me not to repeat what he said, but he said – he painted this picture you just described. He said, ‘This is serious. This is the most serious thing that we faced.’”5

I saw it before but so what? The way it turned out ,REPUBLICANS were seen as responsible for TARP. So let Pelosi declare martial law. How could things have turned out any worse? It was GWB’s bill and republican leadership signed on to it(without demanding conservative concession) , there was NO way after the fact republicans could get their brand name off of it, although gutless McCain tried to act like he disapproved of it.

I was kidding about the piling on by the way...as for the martial law threat...wow just wow...thanks for posting this utube thing...I wonder what would have happened if Congress had been stronger...it was an election year and of course they get many campaign donations from Wall Street banks. Plus one has to hope that at least some in Congress have best interests of the country at heart...no one wants a depression and/or civil unrest. Thanks again.

It was Paulson who threatened this and the White House...they threatened Nancy Pelosi who as you can imagine did not want to give the banks money or at least this is what I heard.

LOL. Don't believe it. TARP was Pelosi and democrats , and Obama winning the lottery/jackpot. Maxine Waters was running around telling her BCC to support it(I saw her say so on Cavuto) . You think Maxine Waters was worried about Paulson and the banks failing under Bush? Republicans have generated so many conspiracy theories to cover their failures. One is that George Soros created a run on the banks last fall, another is that George Soros created the gas price /oil price crisis to hurt Bush when McCain was actually benefiting from by flipping his positions on drilling. This is another one(with Paulson getting orders from Clinton probably) .

It's really a sign of compete desperation. But its required, Why? Because many on talk radio were predicted (like in 2006) a republican win.

No way...if the Dems had their way, they would have micromanaged Tarp for their benefit. We may not want to believe this, but this came out of the Bush Administration. Many Dems voted against it at first as did the GOP.

Martial law *was* declared, but not the kind the immediately comes to mind. It’s some kind of Congressional provision, where Congress must remain in session until legislation addressing the issue that the martial law is called about is hammered out & voted on in the affirmative.

That was to someone else but I appreciate your comments. House Repubicans were warned to vote for it, with eyes closed, and nose too, or be PUNISHED by voters. But many like those in Senate never question big government action.

Yep. “I had to vote against my principles and your interests because Pelosi was going to force us to stay in session so I couldnt go home and campaign But vote for me now because it is all really democrats fault even if I look like a worthless piece of ...”.

Republicans go out like lame corrupt power hungry cowards they were.

And as Dem and Pubbie talking heads continue to repeat conspiracy theories and point fingers, a select group of
non-ideological power-hungry elitists divvy up the loot and taxpaying citizens are stuck with the bill.

P.S. Will ya add me to your official Schiff list, please?

“Systemic Risk” is like poison oak, once you’ve touched some of it or got it on your material items, it’s going to keep getting on you and making you miserable unless you get rid of the source...
