New York, New York – April 29th, 2009 - The National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition (http://www.nationwideteapartycoalition.com) today accepted President Obama`s invitation "to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security.”

The invitation was extended by the President at a Town Hall Meeting held in Arnold, Missouri today (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0409/21870.html). Michael Patrick Leahy, a member of the National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition, said " We want to broaden the scope to address the President`s runaway march to socialist-statism, and the rampant across the board irresponsible spending he is promoting with his $787 Billion Stimulus Plan and his $1 Trillion Annual Deficit, his takeover of General Motors, Chrysler and the Banks ."

Kellen Giuda, organizer of the New York City Tea party attended by 12,000 and of Parcbench (http://www.parcbench.com) said, “I think a constructive dialogue with the President would be a great opportunity for him to acknowledge that, yes, many Americans have a problem with the way Washington is handling our taxpayer dollars and also that we are concerned about health care and social security reform. I am happy he is open to a discussion. The Tea Parties are protesting against fiscal irresponsibility and any dialogue we can have will hopefully bring a better public understanding of our country`s finances. Health care and social security reform is a large concern to us."

The National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition includes 25 of the more than 900 local organizers of the April 15, 2009 Tax Day Tea Parties held across the country, which were attended by more than 1 million Americans. Members of the National Leadership Team includes Judson Phillips, organizer of the Nashville Tea Party attended by 10,000, James Dickey, organizer of the Dallas Tea Party, attended by 5,000, and JoAnn Abbot, organizer of the Washington, DC Tea Party attended by more than 3,000. You can read this draft document in full when it is posted within the next 24 hours at the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition website. The Nationwide Tea Party Coalition is providing support and assistance to Professor Barnett as he reads and reviews public comments on The Bill of Federalism. We anticipate a final version of The Bill of Federalism will be completed within 60 days. We encourage all citizens who are interested in the future of our republic, and who which to stop our slide into socialism, to comment on this document, and to enlist their friends and neighbors in this effort.

Upon completion of the final version of The Bill of Federalism, we will encourage selected state legislators to introduce a bill to petition Congress to Convene a Constitutional Convention for the purpose of passing The Bill of Federalism, thereafter sending it to the states for ratification.

If 2/3 of the states petition Congress to hold a Constitutional Convention, Congress must convene one. Alternatively, Congress may pass The Bill of Federalism on its own, and submit it to the states for ratification. Upon ratification of The Bill of Federalism by 3/4 of the states, after passage by either the Congress or a Constitutional Convention, it will become part of the United States Constitution. Professor Barnett will discuss his draft of The Bill of Federalism with all 26 members of the National Leadership Team of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition LIVE on Pajamas TV at 6pm EDT, 3pm PDT, this Monday, April 27. I’ve got no problem with people meeting with him. I just want the meeting taped and available to the grass-rooters.

Read down the comments, Michael Patrick Leahy has been removed from the Tea Party group due to trying to usurp the movement for his own gain.

Leahy was trying to attach his extra pet issues such as a bill for federalism and a new constitutional convention, which no one was onboard with. He was also piping down orders to various tea parties (us included) which only perturbed them, wasn`t doing his share of the organizational work, and was getting a reputation as a grandstander in the media. Some of the things he wanted us to do was get together a list of all the people that signed in at every tea party and make it national, which only he was wanting, and made that an order and everyone just ignored him, and wanted everyone to jump through some technology hoops to get all our media up on TCOT. The Monday before the 15th, many of us made time for the national conference call expecting it to be important, and surprise! It was during a broadcast of his PJTV show, where he was broadcasting himself speaking on an static filled echo loudly over the line and we all had to yell to hear each other, if at all, until he finally cut to us to put us on his show. We were pretty ticked at it losing valuable organizing time and wasting our time in general. He was growing very unpopular among almost all of the organizers and was finally shown the door. Everyone pretty much supported the decision when it was done a week ago. His group that he has isn`t very strong. some of the people listed were never consulted. He had Andrew Ian Dodge listed there, until Andrew complained loud enough to be removed. It was 850 to the supposed 25. Meanwhile, everyone else was going forward with tea party patriots, holding the normal national, state, and regional, conference calls and maintaining the mailing list. It wasn`t them that splintered off from Leahy, but Leahy who was pushed out due to all the complaints and he tried to take a few with him. The national mailing list has exploded against him pretty hard after his stunt with the "press conference" though, and had to finally take it public to disavow it. No one was consulted, and now he has everyone absolutely SEETHING at him. There were 2 ways the movement was going... Leahy seemed to want a top down thing with him at top. Everyone else wanted to just manage themselves and have a bottom up movement, which Tea Party Patriots is. We just really want an organization there to be able to connect with each other and represent us when someone is bothering us. They`ve done great work to get groups that were bothering us off our backs and were responsive when we had problems. I actually liked Leahy, but am just very disappointed in him... He just does not speak for us, and just worked to alienate himself from other organizers.

This was solely a press play to call his bluff.

Dangerous move. You are certain that he won't agree to meet with you. But he might. You're playing with fire.

Why did Leahy play this off as about social security and healthcare? That is what got everyone’s panties in a bunch as much as anything since this is not and never has been about going along with Obama or anyone else on bigger government — like Nationalized healthcare and at the bottom of the link to this entire thread was a thing to sign a petition for nationalizing healthcare!

Before anyone goes to the WH to speak for me he had danged well be ELECTED to speak for me, not go on their own agenda and claim to be speaking for all of us who attended tea parties on April 15th.

Thank you The Spirit Of Allegiance for the ping, Tom Jefferson for sharing #145, and Arizona Carolyn for sharing #167.

FWIW my tea party take away is that people came for all sorts of reasons. After the opening organizers encouraged participants to step up and speak up. A self identified liberal Democrat castigated Obama for tyranny. A probable Libertarian said that Obama broke his campaign promise to bring the troops home. A state worker disclosed state legislators quietly receiving a handsome retirement/benefits package after serving only one term. Every speaker seemed to attend for a different reason.

If you listen to the tape of Obama when he was doing the Townhall meeting, he gave derisive comments about the tea parties and then he said something like this, and I am paraphrasing. “If those tea party people would just meet with me and tell me how to solve the health care problem and social security I would be happy to meet with them.”

It was obvious that it was not a real invitation, and that he was really mocking the tea party participants. Like, ‘how would those right-wing kooks know anything about health care and social security, such monumental problems that I have to deal with.’

Those were his words, and we just responded to them. We knew he would never dare hold a public forum with us or with anyone conservative.

I don't like it either. 0bama isn't going to listen to anything he's going to use them to his advantage. I took my 81 year old Mom to the April 15th Tea Party and she was a little scared to go at first. That was her first protest. She just told me today she hopes there are more because she wants to go. She is so worried about what is happening. (As we all are.) I don't want to have to explain to her that someone carelessly gave away all of our leverage for their own gain or from naivete.

On 9-11-01 she came down to my room and asked me if I had an American flag. I didn't think she was serious because she had never wanted to fly a flag before. But she came back and lit a fire under me and I found one and a pole to put it on. She has taken it out every morning and in every night since except for a few times that I beat her to the punch.

We will make a sign that says "The Anti-National Tea Party Tea Party" and stand off to the side next time if these guys mess it up. I bet we'll have people move over by us too. lol

Every speaker seemed to attend for a different reason.

If there is one reason that everybody could agree on it would be something like
"We're sick to death of D.C. and their BS."

I could easily list a half dozen issues that motivated me just to get warmed up.

Just for the record, I agreed to let Leahy use my name on the letter, but I am not involved in his other activities about a constitutional convention, or anything else.

We will be doing our July 4th tea party as a local effort, just as we did the two previous ones.

I thought his idea about calling Obama’s bluff was a good one. Apparently many of you don’t agree.
