Toomey confident he'll defeat Specter
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | 2009-05-03 | Rick Wills

Patrick Toomey, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, said Saturday that he is a mainstream conservative with enough statewide appeal to win a general election against five-term incumbent Arlen Specter.

"Reagan carried this state twice. I don't think this state has changed," said Toomey, a former U.S. Representative from Lehigh County.

While Toomey said his reputation is that of a staunch conservative and fiscal hawk, he won three straight terms in a district that has more registered Democrats than Republicans and which supported the Democratic presidential candidate in each of the last five elections.

Toomey spoke yesterday at a gathering of Moon Township Republicans, where speakers railed against the Obama administration's economic programs and against Specter's switch from the Republican to the Democratic Party last week.

Specter will most likely be dead from cancer by the time the election rolls around. He’s visibly dying.

I think they call that “politically incorrect”.

Politically incorrect or not, it’s likely true. That’s why the rats aren’t scared about any promises they’ve made him. His replacement if he actually won would be named by the Governor.

Specter will likely be defeated in the Democrat primary- before Toomey can get his hands on him.

However, the good news is that with a contested Democrat primary, the eventual candidate will have to appeal to the moonbat left to win it. This will make the general election choice a very clear one.

Specter had to lie and put an (R) behind his name to get elected.

So, he thinks that being honest and putting a (D) behind his name is going to get him elected now?

PA Republicans like Specter and are confident in him. He’s confident. Seems the only group that doesnt think he can win is the GOP Old Guard.

“Reagan carried this state twice. I don’t think this state has changed,”

Uh oh. Toomey is dumber than a stick if he believes a statement like that. If my memory is correct, Reagan carried California a few times and it’s hard to imagine him winning the election for dog catcher in CA these days.

The fact is that the voters in states do change, and Toomey better get that into his brain. Pronto!

That story is out there and woe on them if they try it.

His name is being floated and I laugh.

This man has had the name “moderate” attached to him from the first time he got elected.

“Reagan carried this state twice. I don’t think this state has changed,”

The only way Pa will ever go republican again is if we can unload Philadephia onto new jersey.

"Reagan carried this state twice. I don't think this state has changed,"

Thats exactly the reason why the GOP can't win an election, and if this guy truly believes that he might as well pack it in now.

Not only have state demographics changed, the press has morphed into the propaganda wing of the DNC, and thanks to McCain Feingold and Motor Voter the GOP had better come up with some big ideas in a hurry.

That means insanely negative attacks on the socialists, CALLING them Socialists, calling bastards like Spectre no good back stabbing SOB's who are stealing your kids money, talking about where the hell is that muslim bastards birth certificate, in short fighting dirty and playing for keeps.

Nice guys finish last.

All he has to do is show a photo of his handsome self next to Specter who looks like a pasty old man who needs to retire.

We should have AGE limits on Congress AND Term Limits.

The thing to remember is that the RINOs who say Toomey can’t win, are the RINOs who will likely refuse to vote for him.

IOW All their platitudes about voting for the guy with the “R” in front of his name is for show. What they really want is to prove they’re right even if it costs the GOP a seat.

In short, they’re hypocrites.

Toomey needs to work the Reagan democrats in PA that also opposed the bailouts and porkulus. It is doable..even more so if Expectorate is defeated by a nutRat.

I have friends and family left out in CA and they aren’t too pleased about the economic conditions out there. I understand it’s markedly worse than average. The state is in fiscal chaos.

I wouldn’t under estimate the power of what people are feeling and going through right now. It seems like Toomey is trying to harness that and go with the Tea Party movement that had people from all walks of life involved.

"Toomey needs to work the Reagan democrats in PA that also opposed the bailouts and porkulus. It is doable..."

Amen.

Any GOP running in 2010 has to come right out and proclaim in no uncertain terms they'll do whatever it takes to reverse every single thing the clown zerO's done in the way of "stimulus". And they'd better damned well have all the facts & figures to back 'em up, like how the money was REALLY spent, as opposed to what people have been told.

We'd all find out right then & there where the Republic stands, then simply let the chips fall where they may.
