Chrysler and the Rule of Law (Impeach O)
WSJ ^ | May-13, 2009 | TODD J. ZYWICKI

Posted on 05/13/2009 7:27:07 AM PDT by heiss

The rule of law, not of men -- an ideal tracing back to the ancient Greeks and well-known to our Founding Fathers -- is the animating principle of the American experiment. While the rest of the world in 1787 was governed by the whims of kings and dukes, the U.S. Constitution was established to circumscribe arbitrary government power. It would do so by establishing clear rules, equally applied to the powerful and the weak.

Fleecing lenders to pay off politically powerful interests, or governmental threats to reputation and business from a failure to toe a political line? We might expect this behavior from a Hugo Chávez. But it would never happen here, right?

Until Chrysler.

Given the demonization of Bush in the last 8 years and the success it gave to Dims, I think it is time for GOP to fight back.

GOP should mercilessly attack Obama for abuse of power and unconstitutional activism, and GOP should demand both congressional and criminal investigation. If the administration abused its power (e.g. threatened bondholders) it should lead to impeachment (and criminal investigation of Geithner and other hacks).

This should be the talking point in talk shows and campaign ads.

Of course, all this assumes that GOP has any backbone and willingness to fight, so who am I kidding. GOP will be silent.

GOP will be silent

Actually, a large percentage of them will noisily attack conservative Republicans.

Anyone who has a "business meeting" with Obama needs to record the meeting. I would like nothing better than to hear yet another leaked recording of that anti-American thug conducting business under his rules. We already know that he hates those of us who cling to God and guns, and I can't wait to see him weakened by recordings of his tactics. Eventually, the pro-American 66% of the country will turn on Obama.

Just like when I used to preach separation of the races when I was a Grand Kleagle.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!! Why this is not happening is beyond me and THE #1 reason why the GOP is as much responsible as the Democrats for the deliberate destruction of our nation.

What ever high crimes and misdemeanors Obama may be guilty of an impeachment is completely out of the question. Impeachments require decisive action by both the house and senate and with the current make up of both Adolf Hitler would be safe if he had a D after his name.

RE :”Of course, all this assumes that GOP has any backbone and willingness to fight, so who am I kidding. GOP will be silent.

The problem is the republicans(Bush/Paulson) used similar tactics on the banks TARP1, forcing them to take bailouts. They created the precedents on much of this crap Obama is doing, destroy capitalism to save it. You would have to prosecute Bush first. That is why republicans are stuck now. The news will point out republicans voted for TARP1, yes the media did demand house republicans support TARP, I remember.

Liens are filed at the county seat closest to the property against which the lien is perfected. There are about 3,300 counties in the U.S. This is probably why the the Treasury decided to invest in the banks to cover the bad mortages instead of buying the loans. This is also why the liberals in congress have their panties in a wad over foreclosures. They really are powerless to stop them as the foreclosure actions go on at a local level. 3,300 local levels!

I’m still unsure why GOP is not attacking..

two theories:

1) GOP is the most incompetent political party in the last 200 years

2) GOP does not care (life is good, ie congressional salary, without all the hassles of actual political work)

LOL, my point was that secured creditors are paid first in a bankruptcy, that is right after the attorney fees and court costs. All this huffing and puffing about hedges funds is mostly BS.

Two of the bondholders (Hedge funds) bought their Chrysler paper for pennies on the dollar expecting a bankruptcy and want to hold out for the entire face amount courtesy of the taxpayer. Oppenheimer is facing an investigation and possible indictment for some of his practices. These are no necessarily good actors. Also, in any bankruptcy procedure, the judge sets the rules. Plenty of bondholders in previous bankruptcy procedures were screwed over in order to save the company.

Also, wages and pensions come before secured creditors...not many people realize this.
