After reading Newt's Newsletter this morning, and particularly his article about Nancy Pelosi, I think a protest is in order. She's "invalidated" herself as third in line to the Presidency, according to Newt. He's being generous and more polite than I would be.
I will be placing a home-made sign on my car today.
It will say, "I've got your 6."
Almost every person who has served in any military capacity will recognize it and understand it. Far fewer Liberals will get it, which suits me fine. If a lot of these pop up across the country, perhaps a few of our honored service members will see them and maybe it will help in some small way.
(I'm not peddling bumper stickers or anything else; I just think a message needs to be sent.) Make a sign for yourself, and a little scotch tape will do the trick.
I was married to a sailor for 23 years, but I’d never heard this until JAG. (blush)
What exactly does it mean and where does it come from?
It’s fighter pilot slang - means “I’ll cover your @ss.” IOW, keep the bad guys from slipping in unseen for a shot.
I am a military person and I’ve never heard it.........
military spouse, going on 20 years, didn’t know:
Basically means “I’ve got your back.” Comes from the old pilot system in which directions correspond to hours on the clock, where 12 o’clock is forward and 6 o’clock is behind. Thus anyone behind you is “at your six.”
...and I was regular Army in 1967, and we all used the term all the time. I never got near a jet except for my ride to and back from RVN. I never personally ran into an ex-military person who didn’t know the phrase. So, I’m puzzled by so many who have never heard it. Maybe it ain’t such a good idea as I thought...
ahh, that’s why I didn’t hear of it, he never had my six, no reason to use it.
Thanks y’all
Maybe it’s a “Nam thing” as well as a pilot thing. Hubby was in Vietnam and I am familiar with the term. I will have to ask some of the current soldiers I know if they are familiar with it. I think it is a good idea- if most will know what it means.
for us we would ask the Iraqi’s if they had Victor Delta on their 6...they never got it but we thought it was funny.

on your 6= crotch
12 was your head
6 was the lower part of the body
3 and 9 were your arms
So (blush) what does “screw the pooch” mean and where did it come from????
I have no idea, but you are welcome to go to urbandictionary.com to look it up. That’s where I found the “I’ve got your six” definition.
I know it means to really mess up.
If you are faint hearted about bad language, do not go to urbandictionary.com
AHH Thanks. found out where it came from
