Wyoming or Virginia? Liz Cheney's media joyride is boosting talk of a possible congressional run. Benjamin Sarlin has the inside scoop on where shed runand if she can win.
With the position of top Republican talking head up for grabs, it's been Liz Cheney's turn to wear the crown this month. In just a short time, the former State Department official under George W. Bush made dozens of media appearances defending the administration's policy on torture and calling on President Obama to block efforts to prosecute her father, Dick Cheney.
Liz Cheney's strong performances on cable news debating her father's critics have raised her profile to new highs. With Obama's Supreme Court nominee pushing interrogation policy off the headlines this week, Cheney has shown no signs of leaving the spotlight, instead taking to the airwaves to attack Obama's judicial philosophy as dangerous. Her newfound media ubiquity is feeding buzz that she might run for Congress, a notion she has deflected with distinctly candidate-like non-answers.

....as long as we don’t have to hear from the sister any more.
Republicans could learn a lesson from Liz. Rather than answering interviewers’ inane questions she shoots back pointing out the flaws and innacurracies in their questions. We need many more Liz’s out there.
Liz and Sarah, the Dream Team
She should run for Governor somewhere....California would be a VERY entertaining place to see her....
I would go for that and maybe she and Palin at some point.
I suspect if Liz Cheney does run, it will be in Frank Wolf’s seat (Va-10), when he retires. Its the most GOP friendly seat in NoVa. Cheney will probably also wait to see how redistricting fares.
I hope so. I would send her money right now.
I would love to see her run for office. Cheney, Palin, Bachman, etc. Strong ladies and a breath of fresh air.
I agree, we need to differentiate the sisters. In congress ok, but not in the senate since that is where the Federal Marriage Amendment would be voted upon and I don’t think any of the Cheneys support the protections of traditional marriage. (including stopping faux marriage civil unions)
Three words, John Quincy Adams.
The desire to "throw of the crown of England", was just that. While the Founding Fathers were eager to create a governemnt where the people govern themselves, whatever they created was still going to subject to the laws of market dynamics, in this case "brand identity".
This phenomenon has much less to to with aristocracy and more more to do basic marketing principles and brand recognition. The inherent goodwill that comes with some specific names throughout American history is the reason this happens. You couldn't afford to buy the "brand identity" that names like Clinton, Bush, Cuomo, Kennedy possess.
I'm not a big fan of it, in fact I really dislike it but I understand it at the same time. And, so long as we have dynastic Democrat families seeding all manner of government at all levels in a number of states, I'm just as happy to use the resources Republican dynasties from time to time.
Palin/Cheney 2012
NEWSFLASH: Upon announcing their run for the White House, several well-known MSM reporters and KOS bloggers die of severe coniption fits. The morticians had to work overtime to remove the deceased’s grimaced facial expressions and straiten the bodies from their fetal positions.
Does she live in the Frank Wolf part of McLean or the Jim Moran part of McLean, do you know?
JOYRIDE????? What an ASS the writer is!! Liz Cheney is SMARTER than 99% of the Congress!!
AMEN!! And she doesn’t let them interupt her or sidestep her!! Liz is TERRIFIC!
Best political news in weeks.
She would be tremendous.
It would be great if she runs for Wolf’s seat in 2010 or 2012. Liz can count on my vote.
