While you’re welcome to your opinion (and likely shared by many) do you have anything for us to go on as to whether or not you know what you’re talking about? You aren’t suggesting this as a possibility, but as a fact. Please elaborate.

First, maybe, maybe not. Second, I suspect some group somewhere already has (I think this is commonplace when there is any disaster, as they want to get some credit whether they were involved or not and generally they are lying).

If you search for it now, it has been withdrawn. The source wasn’t a source. Looks like someone just wanted to get in the news.

No, I really have no set opinion one way or another. I just thought this was interesting info that wasn’t yet posted on FR. I do recall an incident in OK awhile back that CLEARLY was terrorism and an attempt was made to sweep it under the rug. I’m all for info being out there. Let the facts lead us, not preconceived notions.

A few. Not many and none more recent than 1988.

Very good point

For a bomb to go off on an airplane precisely where and when it did would be the perfect crime if remaining hidden, or under the radar so to speak, was the point.

As long as we are talking theories - Could be a training run. I know at one point there was a plot to destroy around 20 planes simultaneously in route to the U.S.

"I'm surprised the media isn't all over this one as well:"

Just wait 'til the FBI names a white, Christian male as a "person of interest." The story will be on the cover of Time.

As was stated before. Not if this was a 'work in progress' and there were more 'jobs in the mix'. Not that I saying it was sabotage, but to rule it out because some group has not claimed responsibility is naive.

BTW This Obama character is giving me the willies. I truly am concerned about the safety of Americans here in our homeland. He is weak on terrorism (won't even say the word) and our enemies know it. No longer can we count on our President to defend the Constitution and protect us from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Stay vigilant, stay strong. Unless this moron attempts to rig the election system (which he has done in Georgia) he will be out in four years with a legacy that will make Jimmy Carter look like Ronald Regan. My apologies to the Regan family.

The ocean floor where they are looking is 13000 ft deep

At 14,000 feet of depth there is 6084 psi pressure on the black-box cavity. I doubt the enclosure or its seals are designed to withstand those pressures. I calculate the wall thickness in aluminum to be about 3.75" to span 12" without deflection. Anyone know for sure?

“Let’s think about this, though. Are there any logical reasons why a terrorist group would not want to be discovered? At least immediately?”

Wasn’t Richard Reid (aka Abdul Raheem) intially supposed to be the test platform for the shoeboom to be used on later flights?

If this was a test also, then having it go down in an unrecoverable area would conceal the new methods, so they could be used on other flights.

Personally, though, my guess is that this was due to weather and airframe breakup in turbulance. But just my guess.

You’ll be in my prayers. I stopped flying about 15 years ago, but I know it’s a safe way to travel. And have a fun vacation.

I think this is the thing that always gets my hackles up. Why can’t they just say, “We can’t know at this time and we’ll report on our findings.”

Two aircraft? I had not heard of that possibility. If the plane broke in two (for whatever reason) could you still get 2 debris fields that far apart? Wish I had paid more attention in physics...
