‘Women Are More Sensitive. They Think About Other People’
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 06/05/2009 5:28:27 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

If Sam Donaldson was right, and getting “different perspectives” is important, then why did Good Morning America put together a segment on Pres. Obama’s Supreme Court nominee that had just one perspective, roughly translatable as “Viva Sotomayor!”? Did the ABC folks really think that MSM liberal Cokie Roberts was going to oppose Sotomayor? Could they have been counting on MSM liberal Sam Donaldson to do so? Oh, and let’s not forget the “expert” we heard from: a professor of . . . women’s studies.

That professor, Phyllis Coontz, of Pitt’s women’s studies department, declared:

“Women are more sensitive. They think about other people.”

Yeah, unlike those selfish male firefighters who went charging into the burning towers on 9-11.

Yeah, they think about how they can win one over on the other person, how the other woman might be trying to win one over on them, how they can best the other person in some way while winning social favor.

Just a generalization, you understand. But this “Women Think About Other People” thing is true, but not necessarily in a good way.

I prefer it when people aren’t worried about other people all the time - when they mind their own business

WRONG. ALL people are individuals. I personally can think of more men who are sensitive and more women who are ANYTHING but. This is pure stereotyping. Men are NOT what t.v. tells us we are.

{Cokie: what the heck happened to you! The years have NOT been kind.....]

It doesn’t matter whether she is more sensitive or insensitive: she is to interpret the LAW not her sensitivities.

Agree completely on this being a gross, incorrect generalization. Without a doubt some women are very caring and sensitive just as some men are. However, some women are total scumbags.

Take, for example, a former friend of mine. After years of heartache and struggle, she decided to file for divorce from her cheating, lying, drug addicted husband. I walked through the divorce with her. At her request, I took time of off work to take her to court. I spent hours on the phone with her on an almost daily basis while she cried over her failed marriage. I helped her write letters, e-mails, and court documents. I tried to befriend and support her three kids because I knew they were going through hell.

After the divorce process ran its course, I was hit with some bad news - my son’s doctor told me to get him to a neurologist as soon as possible because she was seeing indications in him that he might have a brain tumor. I was upset. I turned to my friend for support. She told me to take a hike. Get out of her life and never try to contact her again.

The punchline - she didn’t even tell me to my face. She sent me a text message on my phone.

Wow. Even typing that, it seems unreal. Like no one would ever act that way. But it’s true.

(By the way, my son turned out to be fine.)

And it would be wrong of me to stereotype based on that incredibly bad experience. Some women are very kind and sensitive. Others are sick, twisted, and mean. Just like men.

I thought liberals despised stereotyping?

Yes, some women are more sensitive to other people than are some men. And vice versa. I've known plenty of women who were primarily into themselves. Men too.

It only took me about 50 years to realize that we are all just folks, and neither gender is special or somehow closer to diety.

2 Thess 3:10-12

For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. 11 For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. 12 Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread.

Roberts and Donaldson seem to be morphing into each other! I thought Nina Totenberg could make a freight train take a mile of dirt road, but Roberts... Sheesh!

I agree with you (and I’m a woman) but the bigger issue for me is....WHO FREAKING CARES! she shouldn’t be “thinking about other people” she should be thinking about The Constitution! Her job as a supreme court justice wouldn’t be to feel empathy for other people it would be to interpret The US Constitution.

Hardly: my late wife was absolutely firm on that point. She always preferred to hang around with men because she found men to be far more amicable. And she exemplified Cervantes’ definition of a lady, btw.

“Women are more sensitive. They think about other people.”

Nonsense. Bill Clinton felt other people's pain. That's why he was able to advise them to "put some ice on it."

Sam Donaldson looks like a cross between George Takei and Leonid Brezhnev.
