Obama at Columbia-- the unexceptional student no one remembers
wnd ^

Posted on 06/09/2009 7:26:35 PM PDT by cycle of discernment

Obama transferred from Occidental College to Columbia University in 1981.

According to the New York Times, Obama "suggests in his book that his years in New York were a pivotal period: He ran three miles a day, buckled down to work and 'stopped getting high,' which he says he had started doing in high school.

Yet he declined repeated requests to talk about his New York years, release his Columbia transcript or identify even a single fellow student, co-worker, roommate or friend from those years."

Campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt told the newspaper in October 2007, "He doesn’t remember the names of a lot of people in his life."

Obama claimed to be a part of the Black Student Organization and anti-apartheid activities. But according to the New York Times, several well-known student leaders did not recall his involvement.

Fox News made contact with 400 of Obama's classmates. No one remembered him.

The Columbia University chapter in Obama's life remains blank, according to the New York Sun.

"The Obama campaign has refused to release his college transcript, despite an academic career that led him to Harvard Law School and, later, to a lecturing position at the University of Chicago," the Sun reported in September 2008.

"The shroud surrounding his experience at Columbia contrasts with that of other major party nominees since 2000, all whom have eventually released information about their college performance or seen it leaked to the public."

According to the New York Sun, a program from Columbia's 1983 commencement ceremony lists Obama as a graduate. University spokesman Brian Connolly confirmed that Obama graduated with a major in political science but without honors. Nonetheless, he was later admitted to Harvard Law School.

I’ve been taking classes at City University of New York for the past 6 years or so, while working full time. I know 2 professors would remember me by name, but only because I went out of my way to interact with them (in order to take incompletes when work had interfered with my studying too much, but other topics came up that would have made me memorable). I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you couldn’t find a single student who would know my name now, though a few would have recognized it within a few months of the course ending. I’m in a fairly small class right now (about 20 students), and only know a couple of students’ first names (and don’t know how to spell them), and I don’t expect that to change by the end of the course.

So you're telling me that you had no personal association with any student there, made no friends among your fellow students, do not hang out with any fellow students. You just went to class, and went home after class.

I could see that with students who lived in NYC, had family in NYC, and had established friends independent of the college. But somebody who just landed in NYC and knew nobody there?

Nice catch. It seems that, even more than Clinton, Obama is a compulsive liar who cannot do anything honest.

Isn't that a bit different than being a full-time student during your early 20's, either right out of high school or as a 2-year transfer?

But he obviously DID know people in NYC — most likely connections that had been set up for him by someone who had a hand in his transfer to Columbia. He got out of the starting gate VERY fast there, and landed a good job after graduation — very , very doubtful that he arrived in NYC/Columbia entirely on his own initiative and with no helpful people already expecting him. And besides, looking at the NYT article, the claim that NObody at Columbia remembers him appears to be wildly exaggerated. I’m sure there are a number of things that President Obama and/or people who were instrumental in his transfer to Columbia, don’t want the general public to know about. But those aren’t necessarily things of huge significance. More likely just tabloid fodder and evidence of youthful naivete that was unremarkable for an urban college student then, but quite embarrassing now. Or perhaps strong associations with someone whose subsequent activities made them infamous.

In NYC and certain other big cities, it’s not as different as it would be at most colleges. There are so many people and organizations that are readily accessible in a city like this, that many students (especially those who see themselves as headed for greatness of one sort or another) tend to think of college-based stuff as being beneath them. And at least at CUNY, there also appears to be much less going on in the way of campus-based activities, than is normal at non-urban colleges. The number and variety of flyers advertising meetings of student groups and student social activities is a tiny fraction of what was (and is) routinely posted around my alma mater, a small liberal arts college in a suburban setting.

As noted in the NYT article, at least one professor and a student in the same class, remember him very clearly. There may well be others who just prefer not to run their yaps to the NYT. I know if the NYT called me asking about a college classmate of mine from 20+ years ago, who’d recently beome world-famous, they’d be lucky to even get a “no comment” out of me before I hung up.

Also, as a transfer student, Obama may well have needed to take a number of courses to meet distribution requirements, due to differing requirements between Occidental and Columbia. This could have meant significant chunks of his class schedule filled with giant lecture courses with very few upperclassmen, and professors who, even at that time, would haved been hard-pressed to tell someone the size of the class to the nearest hundred without looking it up, and certainly couldn’t have named any of the students without reading off the course roster. I was enrolled in two large lecture courses at Columbia in the late 1970s, and as far as I could tell, neither of the “professors” really spoke a word of English (a science course and a math course, both taught by Asians who were obviously VERY new to English). Few students in the class would even have bothered to try to speak to them — after the first couple of lectures, most students only showed up for the exams.

Who IS this guy?
__________
Barry’s *boyfriend*? Odd there isn’t a single photo with a girl until Michelle. Not ONE. Nor has any girl ever said she dated or even had one date with him. The only girl ever mentioned is some white girl in Dreams that sounds exactly like Bill Ayers girlfriend. Barry thinks he wrote his past in Dreams and that everyone is to accept that BS as fact. He was gay, is no bisexual. Not a doubt in my mind. He is very feminine. His wife is very masculine.

Who IS this guy?

Apparently some schmuck named Tim Robinson.

To make out the tiny names, I suggest you use a magnifying glass, as opposed to zooming in. Resolution is very low on both pics, so enlarging the screen too much doesn't work very well. You can enlarge it some, then use magnifying glass. In the final pic at bottom, he's second on the top left. I didn't check to see if he's in the other pics because I can't imagine why it would matter. These are high school pictures.

“I may be the only person left who specifically remembers his birth. His parents are gone, his grandmother is gone, the obstetrician who delivered him is gone,” said Nelson, referring to Dr. Rodney T. West, who died in February at the age of 98. Here’s the story: Nelson was having dinner at the Outrigger Canoe Club on Waikiki Beach with Dr. West, the father of her college friend, Jo-Anne. Making conversation, Nelson turned to Dr. West and said: “‘So, tell me something interesting that happened this week,’” she recalls.

His response: “Well, today, Stanley had a baby. Now that’s something to write home about.”

The new mother was Stanley (later referred to by her middle name of Ann) Dunham, and the baby was Barack Hussein Obama.

“I penned the name on a napkin, and I did write home about it,” said Nelson, knowing that her father, Stanley A. Czurles, director of the Art Education Department at Buffalo State College, would be interested in the “Stanley” connection.

Dr West Obit:

After the war, Dr West was connected to the Straub Clinic (of the same street address as the phony ‘birth announcement’.)
