Notice how Letterman puts the emphasis on Palin’s 14 year old daughter in the hypothetical situation? It’s not “I didn’t mean to suggest it would be okay for a 30+ year old professional baseball player to commit statutory rape”, it’s (essentially) “I didn’t mean to say it was okay for Palin’s underage daughter to be a ho.”
