Flap over Palin joke could boost Letterman
KTIV ^ | June 13, 2009

NEW YORK (AP) - This may not be what Sarah Palin (PAY'-lin) had in mind.

It could be that her criticism of David Letterman will give a ratings boost to the talk show host, at a critical time.

Palin called Letterman "perverted" the other day, for making a joke about her daughter getting "knocked up" by New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez.

Letterman has admitted that the joke was in poor taste. But he has said he was joking about Palin's 18-year-old daughter -- already an unwed mother -- and not the 14-year-old daughter who was with Palin at the Yankee game.

The story had the effect of turning attention to Letterman during the second week of his new competition with Jay Leno's replacement, Conan O'Brien, on NBC's "Tonight Show".

While the final numbers won't be out for a few days, there's a chance that Letterman could average more viewers than O'Brien for the week.

The director of the Center for the Study of Popular Television at Syracuse University says it'll be "interesting" to see if any ratings bump can be maintained.

CBS has never been known for its conservative audience.

David Letterman has lost his comedy mojo, even before he became so desperate as to verbally attack a 14 year old girl. YOU ARE NOT FUNNY DAVE!

I don't think Sarah Palin gives a rat's rear end about Letterman's ratings, boost or bust. She was only interested in defending the honor of BOTH her older daughters from the scurrilous rantings of an alleged comedian. Her points were salient; she wasn't looking for an apology for herself, but for young women who don't need any more nastiness from society. She also made the excellent point that kids of political figures are SUPPOSED to be off limits, as "he who must be obeyed" declared during the last election, but that the media doesn't seem to want to honor that for the 'other side'.

Sarah hasn't been whining or moaning, just commandingly making her points decrying the way young women are treated by entertainers in this day and age.

I doubt it, but the hoo hah over FR is probably going to boost our membership, as soon as all those people come here to read what we have to say and find out that what they heard about us were lies. Just the same as Rush’s ratings were boosted!

Publicity is rarely a bad thing for a media figure. The statements of David Letterman, obnoxious or otherwise, simply do not merit this much attention.

Which is exactly why the libs hate her, because she stands up for herself and her children. They were expecting her to go away a long time ago and she won’t, which drives the libs crazy. She is standing up for what is right, and she will always defend her children. Libs only love making fun of CONSERVATIVE children, when its a liberal child, they get pissed and demand an apology and that person to be taken off the air. I wonder what if some comic, anyone, came out and say the exact same thing about Sasha and Malia, I’m waiting to see the response from the Daily Kooks and the rest of the libs

Exactly!

If this boosts Letterman’s ratings, it only proves Sarah’s point all the more.

This country is long overdue for a cultural enema and a marxectomy.
