Fire David Letterman Movement Announces Rally: Challenges NYC Chapter of NOW to Join
Yahoo! Finance ^ | June 15, 2009 | Anna Barone

Posted on 06/15/2009 12:02:46 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

A diverse coalition of concerned citizens, whose website is www.FireDavidLetterman.com, today announced a Fire David Letterman Rally on Tuesday, June 16, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm on the sidewalks outside the Ed Sullivan Theater, located at 1697 Broadway in New York City. CBS films the Late Show with David Letterman at the Ed Sullivan Theater. Tuesday’s show, hosted by Letterman, will be taped at 5:30 pm, and will feature guest Michelle Pfeiffer.

Anna Barone, who worked for Hillary Clinton’s Presidential Campaign, and later for Democrats for McCain, called on CBS CEO Les Moonves to fire David Letterman for his sexist insults of both Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and Palin’s 14 year old daughter.

“David Letterman’s disgraceful comments were a violation of standards of common decency. They were as bad as the comments Don Imus made that caused CBS to fire him in 2007. CBS needs to apply the same standards to David Letterman they applied to Don Imus,” said Barone.

John Ziegler, producer of the documentary film Media Malpractice, called for representatives of the New York City Chapter of NOW to join the rally, and for the group to call for CBS to fire David Letterman.

“In 2007 NOW called for the firing of Don Imus in a situation that was far less egregious than what happened here. Are they once again going to sell out their principles for politics? It is clear that Letterman needs to be held accountable in some way for this and the unprecedented media assault on the Palin family must end,” said Ziegler.

Notice that one of the three contacts at the link is a PUMA, so this isn't just about "conservative right-wingers" being disgusted with Letterman's remarks!

...maybe not. But I remember getting excited about PUMA’
s helping to get McCain in and it was a no go. Eventually, they all go back to their Marxist BS.

this movement is silly. if it doesn’t stop soon, it’s going to hurt Palin in a big way. I heard multiple comments over the weekend from conservatives who believe that Palin is pushing this too far. She jumped into the fight instead of leaving it to others.

Now her supporters want to tar and feather Letterman. Everyone has said something stupid and idiotic in their life. I sure wouldn’t want my job to hang on whether I’ve ever said something dumb. Most Americans will feel the same way and the sympathy will shift to Letterman very quickly.

Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.

I hope that Michelle Pfeiffer doesn’t say anything negative about Palin on the show—I’ll really be torn.

I don’t understand all this anger over Dave Letterman’s comments. After all, he didn’t mean to call A-Rod a rapist, or pedophile. He intended to call Bristol Palin a Ho. Luckily he didn’t say that she was “Nappy Headed!”

If someone joked about my daughter getting raped and everyone on the planet except my closest friends said it was okay, I would burn down that persons house and anyone who got in my way

Todd Palin needs to man up and kick Letterman’s ass!

I've already talked with Hellman's Mayonnaise, Samsung, Aveeno and several others. They are not happy campers and don't like being tarred with Letterman's filthy brush. Embassy Suites (owned by Hilton) has already pulled out of CBS.com. Keep it up, it's working!!

Good thing that “most americans” felt the same way when Imus said “something stupid.” Yep, the SRM is simply angry that their sword is being used against one of their own.

First if all, Sarah Palin is NOT involved in this protest, she has nothing to do with it, so why would this backfire on her when she has NOTHING to do with it. She hasn’t asked anyone to protest Letterman, in fact, she hasn’t mentioned anything about it since she went on the Today show

They will only be unhappy campers if Letterman viewership declines among the 25-49 age group. No other group really matters to advertisers and I am sure all his advertisers will look to see what Letterman’s ratings do for the next few weeks.

I agree. I don't think Letterman is the real issue here. The real issue is how the left is still throwing vitriol at an also-ran candidate. The Letterman bad-taste "joke" occurred around the time of the columnist who claimed Palin plagiarized a remark of Newt's when she obviously didn't. I keep wanting to write Palin off as the 21st century version of Dan Quayle, but the left keeps attacking her.
