Observing Haumea's satellites will also help astronomers better constrain the object's mass.

Haumea is big enough that it differentiated, like the Earth, so that its heaviest components settled to the core and the lightest, specifically ice, stayed at the surface.

...seem incompatible to me. Wouldn't a faster spin push the heavier objects outward, rather than pull them in toward the center?

I don’t know. Have you ever done the egg experiment where you take a raw egg and spin it until the insides turn solid, like they were boiled. If you do, the yolk is in the center.

I haven’t read the article yet, but I think a golf buddy of mine dated the weirdest object in the entire galaxy about 20 years ago. Let me read now, and see if this is about her.
