Palin to RESIGN as Alaska Governor

UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.

ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.

The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.

Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

She realizes the Republic is doomed, and she knows what comes next.

I’ll wait for her announcement. It’s just specualtion.

Palin made the announcement flanked by Parnell and most, if not all, of her cabinet.

First she has to prove she actually IS a conservative

Something she hasn’t even come close to yet, in particular with economics.

American don't like quitters. She's quitting. This bodes very ominously for her future political viability.

It looks like we'll have to consider either Mitch Daniels or Bobby Jindal.

There is something more going on here.

I compared some of her political instincts to LBJ earlier. Not personally and all around. but she is a character, A rebel. She has an idea. and she knows what is going on.

Yup. No one likes a quitter, and especially in sports and politics it’s bad form and bad strategy. Especially in light of the recent Letterman and Vanity Fair brewhas, it at least gives the appearance that she can’t take the heat. It’s really inexplicable why she’d resign. Not run again, OK, but to quit mid-term with no extenuating circumstances it just doesn’t sit well.

end the dirty attacks on her and her family.

There is nothing in this world that I would want that would have me put my children through what the disgusting press has done to hers. At some point I would have to say enough, but that is just me. I just hope that she is leaving for family reasons and not some sort of brewing scandal. The press has been brutal, I don't know how they sleep at night!

Quitting to run for another office. This doesn’t bode well for the rest of the RINO’s

Exactly.

The one thing I hate and small business owners like myself hate are those who quit and take their ball and go home. In particular in the face of a little adversity.

If she can’t handle Vanity Fair how in the hell is she going to handle the campaign in 2012?

She is done in my book and has proven to me that she does not have the leadership ability to lead any type of conservative comeback.

I’m hard pressed to come to a different conclusion that you on this.

If there isn’t a second shoe to drop on this, she’s taking advice from a very unreliable source.
