Wikipedia:
Peter David Schiff (born March 23, 1963) is an American economic commentator, author, and licensed stock broker who currently serves as president and is owner of Euro Pacific Capital Inc., a brokerage firm based in Darien, Connecticut.

Schiff is best known for his bearish views on the United States economy and for his prescient predictions of the economic crisis of 2008. He has risen to media prominence following the publication of his book Crash Proof: How to Profit From the Coming Economic Collapse, published in 2007.

Schiff appears on American financial news programs on networks such as CNBC, CNN, CNN International, Fox News, Bloomberg TV and Fox Business.

Schiff is a supporter of the Austrian School of Economics and the Ludwig von Mises Institute, and was an economic adviser for Ron Paul’s campaign in the 2008 Republican Party primaries, through which Schiff also expressed support for sound money, limited government, and free market capitalism.

As of June 2009, Schiff is eyeing a run for the Republican nomination to challenge Democrat Christopher J. Dodd, Connecticut’s five-term senior senator, in the 2010 U.S. senate election.

Like Peter Schiff, tho not sure why he would want to waste his time sitting in the Senate with Reid and Co.

We need him in Senate. I don’t care if other Republican candidates are conservative as well. Peter Schiff knows his economics very well and he’s combative and articulate. We don’t want another conservative just cowers before the media

Support and elect Conservatives in the South and Midwest. Support and elect Libertarians in the Northeast and Pacific West. Smaller government is the ticket to our big tent. No more big government RINO’s.

exactly, Small government is a prerequisite for GOP

Its funny that some GOP thinks they could be big government and liberal on social issues yet still be in GOP. Why don’t they just join DEM

Bumping this up

Just donated 100 dollars today

He is the perfect NE conservative candidate. Focuses on economic issues and small government and can ARTICULATE why our way of thinking is correct on economics.

Donate to him. Schiff was right

Schiff has been quite wrong recently in his predictions.
He predicted the stock market was headed much lower in March. The market instead went up from 666 to 940 (SPX).

he also predicted US $ was headed much lower last year. Instead the dollar has actually gone up against the Euro and stable against the Yen. China’s Yuan is pegged at a fixed rate so that
has not changed.

Schiff has been quite wrong recently in his predictions.

The key word is recently and he has been quite clear that the market can go in any direction over the short run. Over the last ten years you'd be much better off following him than the talking heads on CNBC.

EXCELLENT news.

Schiff's track record on predicting the economic collapse makes him the PERFECT candidate to go after Dodd, and focusing entirely on an economic referendum (as a bonus I hear he's socially conservative as well, just not focused on those issues) will play well in New England. I would especially relish seeing a true free-market limited government conservative win in the northeast, since even many freepers have drunk the "only RINOs can win in blue states!!" kool-aid.

We will never get a decent Senate if we keep running Specter and Chafee type Dem enablers that caused these problems in the first place.

From what I can tell, Schiff seems to be the only clear small-government libertarian-leaning conservative in the race, since Simmons is a full fledged RINO who would be little more than Dodd-lite in the Senate, and it appears both Foley and Caligiuri are moderate at best (could be closet conservatives but I have yet to see either of them articulate a clearly conservative position)

We have a real chance here, since the numbers have shown the (largely unknown) Schiff polling within single digits of Dodd. I was worried Schiff would wait too long to get in the race and Simmons would consolidate GOP support in the meantime, but NOW we have a good chance of getting Schiff to win the primary. The "only RINOs can win!" argument that the Simmons crowd will chant won't work here, since while Larry Kudlow had been polling weak against Dodd (mainly due to personal baggage IMO), Schiff's numbers PROVE that Dodd is vulnerable to just about any decent GOP challenger. So much for "conservatives can't win!"

Futhermore, Schiff's association with Ron Paul is actually a plus in this situation, since conservatives have always been with Paul 100% on economic issues. As long as Schiff doesn't associate himself with Ron Paul's more kooky foreign policy views (as in "we are not the world's policeman" is fine but "America caused 9/11" is not), he should do fine and unite a wide array of conservatives, libertarians, independents, and anti-big brother/anti-corruption Democrats across the political spectrum.

Check out the video. Schiff may occasionally get his stock market predictions wrong, but he has far and away the best track record of any "expert" market pundit out there in the last 10 years. As he points out, he may have been overly pessimistic a while back, but if people had heeded his warnings back then when the market was doing well, the collapse could have been stopped ahead of time and the fallout wouldn't have nearly been as bad as we are now in.

Bingo. YES to people like Peter Schiff, Eric Wallace, and Pat Toomey for Senate. NO to the likes of Mark Kirk, Rob Simmons, and Mike Castle for Senate.

The Dems currently have a solid liberal majority in the Senate with 60 seats, and only two Dems that are anywhere near "moderate" (Nelson and Specter). Notice you never hear stuff like this from the Dems:

=====================================================

"This is North Dakota we're talking about. I'd love it if a staunch liberal progressive could win here, but guys like Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad WILL NEVER WIN in an super Republican state like this. We HAVE to run pro-life, pro-gun, pro-Iraq, anti-amnesty, anti-tax, anti-government program types who vote with the Republicans half the time to have a chance here. You may not like it, but at least they can WIN and they'll support us on closure votes"

"Max Baucus and Jon Tester would be ideal candidates if they were running in Massachusetts, but here in Montana we have to face up the fact they'll too liberal to win in a state like this. This state hasn't elected a Democrat president since 1992, and that was only because Perot split the vote. Here in Montana a DINO is about the best we can get from voters. The sooner we accept this the better"

"Unfortunately, Kansas is staunch pubbie now and will never elect a liberal. Just look at all their statewide officials. Better a DINO than a Republican. Nominating Kathleen Selibus means a Republican victory. If you purist Democrats would wake up you'd realize that a vote for Selibus is exactly what the Republicans want. We have to be pragmatic here. I don't like Bob Casey Sr. type Democrats either, but at least they give us Governor's offices."

====================================================== Yet we always here that kind of talk from Republicans in so-called "blue" states, don't we?
