GOP Politicians Pandering to Birthers
Little Green Footballs ^ | July 22, 2009 | Charles Johnson

Posted on 07/22/2009 4:49:16 PM PDT by EveningStar

The insane conspiracy theory called the “Birther movement” is gaining support among Republican politicians. Now there’s actually a bill sponsored by Republicans that panders to these nuts. I hate it when I agree with Chris Matthews, but he’s right on this issue — this madness is embarrassing, self-destructive, and above all mind-bogglingly schtoopid.

And it’s spreading.

Can't remember where I saw it, but some commenter or analyst I read said that Obama is probably enjoying this drama and is deliberately protracting it. At the moment when the birthers have reached the apex of their noise, Obama will calmly pull the document from his pocket and blandly ask, "Is this what you were looking for?"

Thus making complete fools of all Republicans and conservatives, because the entire party and movement will be blamed for it.

I believe I read that posted by a FReeper today.

>> if it ain’t IDers, YECers, troofers, it’s nirthers on the right

There’s a major difference between the “birthers” and the “truthers” that Johnson is obscuring by pretending equivalence between them. If you don’t see this and demand, for the sake of argument, that I spell it out, I will. But it should be obvious to anyone with a shred of intellectual honesty.

Mind you, there was a time that I thought this whole thing was a distraction, too. Now, I’m kind of wondering about it myself, and perfectly willing to let it play out.

Methinks Johnson, like Obama, doth protest a bit too much.

If the “birthers” have nothing, then simply ignore them. Why all the fuss?

Should be pretty easy to shut all the ‘nirthers’ up, shouldn’t it? All they want to see is the birth certificate.

Produce it and they all go away. Hide it and they gain credibility.

Why would Obama want to give credence to what is so *OBVIOUSLY* a joke?

Hmmmm....

Yeah, what happened to LGF? They used to be a decent site for getting the stories about unrest in the Middle East and had some good humor in the posted responses.

I forgot my password for LGF and they dropped off my radar for a while, then I asked them to email it to me, logged on and didn’t even recognize what I was reading. Very disappointing.

Regarding a different reply above, it’s not up to the birthers to prove he was born outside the U.S. It’s up to Zero to prove he’s eligible.

He’s not giving credence to it, that’s the whole point. And why would he want to shut the “nirthers” up when the media is doing such a great job of painting them as conservatives and then linking them as whack jobs ..... which in turn paints all conservatives in the same light.

It’s the same reason why the media portrays conservatives as religious zealots. The media is extremely willing to paint conservatives in any bad light they can, all this movement by the birthers does is give them ammunition in my opinion.

Again, I hope I’m wrong but at the end of the day, B.O. would be silly as hell to produce a birth certificate. It’s up to the birthers to prove he wasn’t born in the USA, not the other way around. I say that because public opinion will not change on this.

Now, if this was a GOP president and the shoe was on the other foot, yeah the media would beat that drum every day to show the birth certificate, but not with their guy in the White House. It’s just not going to happen.

Seems to me the administration is ignoring them...the fuss is coming from Rush, Dobbs, and a handful of people that are wishing upon a star without anything but a rumor.

B.O. is smart to let these people paint themselves into a corner and take down the rest of us conseratives in the process, especially at a time when B.O. and his party are sucking on the tailpipe and can’t get anything right.

==This comment on LGF hit it out of the park.

It's funny how RINO Temple of Darwin drones are always accusing the other side of what they themselves are guilty of. It is clear that LGF and all their supporters have sacrificed their collective brains to the evo cult.

PS If your brain is in there somewhere, may I suggest you retrieve it before they clean them out to make room for the next batch of Charlie's chumps who have lined up to make the ultimate sacrifice to the Temple of Darwinistic Materialism:

You are completely out of touch and need to get up to speed on the issue and its ramifications before you spout left-wing propaganda on this subject. Pay attention and look at what this usurper is doing to the constitution and the country.

Uh, the Constitution says the president has to be a natural born citizen.

O keeps fudging where he was born.

O wont produce an actual birth certificate.

We are under no obligation to just take his word for it.

He can make it go away. He wont. Too bad for him.

Either prove he isn’t from Hawaii or drop this. Looks ridiculous for conservatives.

I'm not what you would call a "rabid birther".....

.....But why is it rediculous to want Obama to reveal a truth he is hiding, citizen or not?

The law is the law. If he doesn't measure up, we have a right to know.

In truth, the burden of proof is on him, not the people asking questions.

Rush isn’t involved in this whole BC issue. Focus on obama’s unconstitutional policies, not the person.

Wow. I’ve often heard about this Chris Matthews person on this forum but that was the first time I’ve ever heard his voice or seen him talk. I wish I hadn’t. Man that guy is a major league butthole and I am sure I would have to hit him if I were face to face with him.

This is why I quit watching television so long ago.

Let’s assume for a moment that there really is no long-form BC. (Which would explain much of Obama’s behavior and relatively undocumented past)...How long would it take, to manufacture a “good” fake?

I mean, the paper would have to be right, the ink, dates, signatures, borders, fonts, verbiage, and overall appearance of a document that’d be what...almost 50 years old? Difficult, but not impossible.

The other consideration as previously mentioned...could be the BC would contradict OTHER..(e.g. college applications, retirement applications, bar applications, passports, etc.) documents that have been sealed from prying eyes.

Speculation? Yes. Easily solved? Yes, IF and only IF ALL of Obama’s aforementioned documents are...congruent with his BC.

I believe however, they are not.

She was attacked by nutjobs on the left and had to spend a ton of money to defend herself. B.O. has to do the same thing with this.

No, BO only has to spend $12 and all of this will instantly come to a stop.

I quit going to LGF as well — now I understand why they were irritating me. Love all these people that defend ZERO but not one of them has seen the long form birth certificate that is commenting.

Why should I have to prove he isn't from Hawaii? He should have to prove that he was born in Hawaii. so far, he has not done that. He has stated that he was born in Hawaii. He has shown a photo shopped phony birth certificate. He sent his Chief of Staff to Kenya to clean up the problem over there. Why wont he release his record?

Do you have, or seen, any proof that he was born anywhere is the U.S.?

Without that proof, how can you call it insanity or ridiculous?

I am sane, rational, well educated, and responsible. I take umbrage at people who do not have any information on the subject telling me that it is somehow irresponsible to ask for proof of citizenship. The longer this goes on, the more they try to sidestep the issue, the more push back by sycophants without any proof, the more I want to know why. It looks ridiculous for conservative and anyone else to continue to run from this issue until it is resolved.

"Birthers" wouldn't be Birthers if it were that easy. All the evidence so far indicates he wouldn't be able to product a birth citificate with proof that he is a natural born citizen of the USA and that he has never renounced his US citizenship

With all due respect, I don’t see that as a problem except in the fever swamps of some folks’ minds. I simply don’t see the COLB issue “taking down the rest of the conservatives”. In fact, I don’t see it as anything more than an entertaining (for the right) and distracting (for the left) side show — except among two grous: a) A FEW in the MSM that are grasping to use the “birthers” as a diversion, and b) SOME here on FR that for some reason have a burr under their saddle over it.

Everywhere else I look (including here on FR), I see that the MAJOR focus is on a) the healthcare debacle and b) the failed stimulus. Right where it should be.

I totally fail to see the problem with opening a second front against the Bambi-ster. The sorry rat crap SOB needs to be brought down, and I’m not particular about the technique as long as it gets results.
