Farther back than even I can remember there occurred a national uproar concerning fluoridation. During the 1950s fluoride was being added to the water supply across the country in hopes of strengthening teeth and improving dental health. As little as one part fluoride added to a million parts water could cut tooth decay by as much as 40%. Furthermore, the effect was permanent -- people brought up in areas with fluoridated water remained resistant to decay their entire lives.
But the late 1950s had a distinct paranoid streak. It was the height of the Cold War, the years of Sputnik, Rudolf Abel, and the brutally suppressed Hungarian Revolution. Unintended responses to any such projects as fluoridation were to be expected, and that's what happened. The more excitable elements of America's right got it into their heads that this was a conspiracy to poison Americans, a conspiracy plotted and carried out by -- you guessed it -- the communists. It's unclear what kind of damage fluoridation was supposed to cause, but that didn't matter. People were putting chemicals in the water, and that was all they had to hear. (We see the same thinking in environmentalist panics today.)

How have the “birthers” brought this about?
OK, for those of you who have just gotten back from an expedition to URANUS, here's a brief explanation of the REAL birth certificate controversy:

Well, that's exactly it, and it nonsense. In fact, it's the reverse of the truth; to question a concensus of public sentiment, especially such a flimsy one flowing, as it does, from some the fiat of some authority, strikes me as an essential of conservatism. I think the founders would agree.
Wanted: people with brains and balls enough to think an original thought, and to act upon it if necessary.
It is amusing that we can publish birther theories that are utter crap, lots of anti-birther stories full of red herrings and invective, yet we can’t publish Lew Rockwell because our skin is too thin? Doesn’t make sense. We are getting better and better at debating nothing.
Guys like Mr. Dunn have allowed the state run media to frame this argument as fringe, and paint those who dare to raise questions of eligilibity as wingnuts. The American people deserve to know the truth. We shall not back down! Ever!
Hurting conservatism? Not nearly so much as the damnable RINO’s over the past 15 years or so.
People asking valid questions about the Constitutionally defined eligibility of ANY candidate should have standing to bring that question in ANY court in the land, and get a full and thorough hearing and resolution. Instead, the courts continue to abet the pretender and his fraud on the American people.
It’s time to take back the country. Let’s start with the anointed one’s eligibility.

At this point it is no longer relevant. Even if 0bama was removed from office at this point, the pieces are in place or nearly in place for the final blows of the socialist overthrow.
1. 0bama has NPD and is well insulated by the party.
2. He has his shadow government czars in place.
3. He has just released his union attack animals, once those are out there is no going back.
4. He just instituted an informant dissident line.
5. HHS has recently coordinated with the SEIU to keep up their efforts against the “terrorists.”
6. DHS has classified us now twice as extremists.
The Birth Certificate issue is now a mute point, whether a real issue or not, it no longer matters. The battle is over and lost. Accept that and refocus your efforts so our concerns can be stronger for the other challenges that lay before us. The people who have the time and talent to have investigated the law and the matter so throughly should be recognized for their diligence in the matter, but we need your skills and focus elsewhere now!
We need you looking into the healthcare reform for the doublespeak.
We need you looking into the altered agriculture bill that passed under the radar but a few days ago! A bill that appears to seize our food supply.
We need you out ahead on the Cap and Trade.
And we need someone catalogging the violations of the Cnstitution. We need an 0athbreakers list started. This list is a list of charges and violations that can be used at a later time. If we are not recording and catalogging them they will be lost to history in the noise of the present.
The birth certificate is but one of the first on the long list.

In the thousand-paper-cuts effort to save this republic, there is a place for birthers. It can be debated whether the birthers are inflicting a paper cut, abrasion, 2nd degree burn, 3rd degree burn... or laceration, but its a cut in the right direction nonetheless.
