PHOENIX (AP) - About a dozen people carrying guns, including one with a military-style rifle, milled among protesters outside the convention center where President Barack Obama was giving a speech Mondaythe latest incidents in which protesters have openly displayed firearms near the president. Gun-rights advocates say they're exercising their constitutional right to bear arms and protest, while those who argue for more gun control say it could be a disaster waiting to happen.

It might give some union thugs a second thought before beating up on some old lady...
Again, you provide no reasoning and no logic.
I’m not finished serving my country; but if it were up to me... I’d start the prosecuting of John Murtha for treason and encouraging rooting out corruption of the state.
The difference between you and I is that you, apparently, don’t care about Justice... only legalisms.
I'm not saying either thing. What I'm saying is that making a show of firearms at an ostensibly peaceful assembly is, at best, a symbolic and narcissistic gesture meaningful largely to the bearer's ego, and, at worst, is asking for an escalation in what are already becoming tense situations.
When tempers flare, how could anyone be sure that something tragic wouldn't happen? All it would take is one freaked-out gunstore commando to fire at an approaching crowd (accidentally or in a panic) and whatever political progress that's been made by the town hall protestors until now would be instantly reversed.
Think about it: One stupid asshole, through anger, fear, panic, or just damn poor gun handling, clears the way for socialized health care (or worse) in this country.
Think about it.
I'm reading a lot of brave talk in this thread from you keyboard revolutionaries saying there's nothing wrong with "exercising our rights," and a lot of plain dangerous talk about gettin' jiggy with the SEIU guys, etc.
Like snowrip said, gun ownership is an awesome responsibility that is not to be taken lightly AND the choice where guns are transported, carried, and displayed must be governed by common sense, respect, and good judgement. Gun ownership is not some kind of symbolic gesture to make you feel good about yourself while making an already tense situation worse.
Gun grabbers have been doing it for decades. The dem’s finally decided it was a losing issue for them and it lost them votes...I feel safer with some citizen being armed than a union thug with a baseball bat...the thug is far more violent..
The difference between you and me is that you want an explanation of why we need to protect the president from being shot by people like you and I don't. The fact that you call for an explanation is self-explanatory.
I read somewhere that the AR-15 “carrier” was a Black Militant there to show his support for Obama and Socialized Medicine.
Actually I never said that the president shouldn’t have protection. Besides that, he has the Secret Service.
What I did say was that his presence SHOULD NOT abridge pre-existing rights. Look at it this way: I have the right to open-carry in a public location (state law here). Should that right become null and void should I happen to be protesting the city council? The Mayor? The Governor? My Congressman? The President?
If so, why?
Also, if there IS a “no gun zone” around public officials; then what should the judiciary/law say about it if they should come onto my property where I have a gun? Or, what if that “no-gun zone” is big enough that, should they decide to use my street, my house should be inside it at some point? What then?
Agreed! So put on the Armor of God, and Lock and Load your 1911, and you AR 15A1 Semi-auto...not and assault weapon...and keep the peace when called upon! Not a right wing idea, a survival idea from a man who knows that it is not all about our worlds success and failures but about the Kingdom of God promised by Jesus Christ...
I can hear the Bill Mahores of the world reading this and having no clue as to how much joy it brings me to still be able to write my little thoughts...
I take it you’ve been following my whole argument here.
What do you think? Am I not being articulate enough, or is my debate-opponent merely ignoring/mis-reading my points?
That could not be more incorrect. And the man interviewing him was Ernie Hancock—a very well-regarded man by all, who holds ALL area government officials’ feet to the fire.
Way off topic but don’t AP writers know the difference between “bring” and “take”? Even the all-knowing professor from NAU kept saying “bring.”
Just a pet peeve of mine.
...Sarah Jane Moore, Lynette "Squeakie" Fromm, Arthur Bremer and the Puerto Rican communists who tried to assassinate Truman as well.
The right may not like Obama and may detest his policies but with the exception of the mentally ill most of us would never consider harming the man. Making a martyr of the man would only strengthen conservatism's enemies.
Bullshit.
Go ahead and prove your point. Let me know how it works for you.
Thanks for the correct info!
WRONG WRONG WRONG... It is vital that we let the FedGoons KNOW that we know what the REAL purpose to the Second Amendment is, and that we are READY AND WILLING to fulfill that purpose if needs be. I would love to see THOUSANDS carrying, ALL MANNER of weapons to his lordship’s lovefests. And to all the other rats’ “meetings.”
You’re welcome. :-)
I think the time for worrying overmuch about what "moderates" "feel" is over. The time for standing up for our rights, and reminding the "Powers that Be" just what those are has now arrived.
Why? He’s a hireling like everyone else in FedGov. The Secret Service oughtta be enough. We need NO MORE federal laws, thanks so much!!!
It's Arizona, no license needed except to carry *concealed*, which these guys obviously were not.
