I know I am probably alone in this, but a 14 year old “victim” does not necessarily a pedophile make, in my eyes. A pervert perhaps, a bad guy, probably, and someone whom I would probably beat half to death if it was my daughter. But I dont know if I would consider them a pedophile. I mean, have you seen 14 year old girls these days? To me, a pedophile is someone who messes with sexually immature children.

Dear God
You are actually trying to blame a 14 y o girl?
Not sure what to say to that.
You see no difference between the reasoning skills of a 25 y o man and a 14 y o girl?

wow

These folks did this all wrong. They should have drugged him and submerged the car in the Sacramento River... with him strapped in it

Of course it was reasonable. They just “surged” the guy. ;-)

Plus as I said, it isn't clear what her role in it all is. Girls that age chase after older guys for a variety of reasons, one of them being the ability to escape from parents they see as strict and unreasonable, others for the notoriety of it all, riding around in his car, access to booze and drugs, etc.Others are already community sluts, and looking for new ways to shock and awe their peer group

Don't worry. A family like this one will deal with the girl and get to the bottom of the story. But don't forget that, at 14, girls are not exactly mature and sometimes need to be protected from themselves.
Personally,I would ban all on-line social sites, it makes it too easy for perverts to get in contact with silly school girls who think they know more than their parents.

Thanks for posting that. I don’t think a few on this thread have read it.

The family did nothing wrong. They didn’t lure the guy to the park. They took action because they thought he had their daughter! That’s reason enough to shoot first and questions later in my book. Given the truth of the situation, I think the family was INCREDIBLY restrained in their actions.

“What the family members did was wrong. I hope the prosecutor takes a good long look at the file before he accidentally misplaces it”

From the article: “[Guzman] was bloody from that,” Sgt. Leong said. “We’ll review it and see if what they did was reasonable given the circumstances in that they were trying to detain him.”

Doesn’t sound like the police are too concerned about charging the family.

At one time, many years ago, justice was dished out by the victim’s family and friends. The justice was swift. There was no aclu to demand injustice. There were no lawyers to plead for the release of guilty parties. There was no cushy prison life with air conditioning, TV, recreation, good meals and a warm bed. There was no parole. There were no soft-headed judges who let criminals go free.

"Where I take issue with your statement is that the family did anything wrong."

Perhaps in a grander sense of cosmic morality, they did nothing wrong. In a strictly legal sense, they became aware of a criminal act (i.e., the solicitation of a minor) and rather than notify law enforcement, they opted to take the law into their own hands by essentially setting a trap. Frankly, I don't have a big problem with what they did...indeed that's why I hope law enforcement kind of turns a blind eye to it...but from a strictly legal standpoint, they put themselves in jeopardy, and I don't think that's even arguable.

For sure - Rocky 6 was good stuff. Did you see the alternative ending? Not hard to guess what happens, but it was good.

C. he came to see a 14 year old girl.

And she went to see him. Whats age of consent in that state? probably 14 if it hasn't been changed yet.

It's clear that she was a willing participant, and that makes a big difference in the courtroom.

No question the guy is a creep than needs to be locked up.

But there's another problem here that needs to be dealt with as well. Technically, this girl was about to become involved in the production of pornographic material, a crime which she should be charged with as well.

A sad reality is that much of the kiddie porn that pedophiles have possession of is produced by the subjects in this material themselves. Parents have to really watch what their kids are doing on the PC these days. NEVER should they be allowed to have them in their bedrooms, and ALLWAYS should parents have spyware installed on their PC's so you can know what they are doing, where they are going.

That's the sad reality of todays world.

Sure you need to respect the process. I just hate it, though, when the cops are under pressure to beat up on the wrong people, because their bosses are so PC.

I don’t need a sarcasm detector but you might need to improve your reading comprehension.

He said, “What the family did was wrong.” He then reiterated that belief in his snide post to me. I took issue with his condemnation of the family’s actions.

What the family did WASN’T wrong. Read comment #51.

"What do you mean “what the family did was wrong”? Are you suggesting that the male relatives of a minor female have no authority to protect her?"

Apparently Post #23 applies to you as well...

BLAME? no, but she does have a role in this, and it isn’t innocence.
